Some perspective:

Draft points out 2439
Draft points in 767

Points diff. 1672

Considering we actually had pick 8 ...

Saad & Fogarty for 8 & 62

Williams - FA

Still have late 2 & mid 3 picks
No picks given away in next year’s very strong draft

..... and will get to death ride 2 players / teams
1. pick 8 selection for years to come no matter who he ends up playing for, and
2. * and whoever they get by trading it

Yeah look we probably paid more than I wanted for Saad but if you look at the totality it looks like this.

8, 30, 51 & 87
—-38, 48 & 78. Saad & Fogarty

That does not take into account Williams but we basicly gave up 8 for Saad and Fogarty with an 8 place downgrade on 30, upgrade on 51 and upgrade on 87 which doesn’t really matter as that will be Gibbons upgrade pick so over all I’m happy.

I just hope my boy Sam Collins is still there at 38 because then I will be very happy, onwards and upwards. 👍

Good post mate.

I suggest everyone take a couple of hours to get out all the emotions of the Saad rollercoaster.
Then look at the trade period in totality. We’ve given up pick 8 and slipped from 30 to 38 and brought in Williams, Saad and Fogarty.
We’ve kept all trade capital for 2021. Brought in 2 AA potential players and a kid whose played a solid role in a grand final team.
Have options to bring in a class player next year where we will have the capital to get the deal done.
One can be disappointed with an individual trade for a little while. But it’s important to remember we’ve drastically improved our list for a lot less than it should of cost. Now that it’s done, let’s get excited by what Saad will bring, not disappointed by having to deal with Dodo.
For what it’s worth, look at what the bombers are losing to bring in the players they are targeting. It’s a lot more than a first rounder and a second round downgrade.
Nonsense..

Firstly, let’s worry less about how the Bombers performed and more about ourselves; Dodoro schooled our LM team during this trade period; he anchored high, and drew out the negotiations to the point where a top 10 became entrenched as a reasonable expectation. They had more to lose than we, and bore a greater risk than us, yet dictated the terms. No one had suggested we act unfairly during those.negotiations, just that we not relent in fair value. We did.

Secondly, it’s wrong to suggest that trade value should be measured on the whole. Value of each bargain should be measured pursuant to each bargain. Each trade on its own merits. That’s just basic.

Anyway, proceed with the nonsense.

I don’t get we why we didn’t go to the draft and select saad with 8 if we were going to do this deal and Essendon get absolutely nothing, we don’t get that extra pick but i would hazard a guess we could have got Fogarty with a future 3/4

The biggest disappointment is that we haven't secured a genuine small forward to replace Eddie yet.

I'll bet that we'll get someone that represents that type in the ND.

Fogarty is the pressure forward/mid/back and we now need a crumber.......and I'll bet we take a crumber.

His Gold coast highlights are very similar to his Essendon ones. but we gave up pick 8 for him while he was uncontracted yet Essendon gave up pick 35 while under contract.
Dude, let it go, we've added a very good player to our club and lost a draft pick, not something majorly substantial to our club right now.

Be better mate. Unless you're a troll, then by all means.

Except he is now a top 3 HBFer in the league.

Blame SOS for being a stingy bastard in the first instance and not matching *'s offer. We could have had him back then.
Saad is a really good player but he wasn't in the All australian squad, so it's hard to say hes top 3 Half back flankers

I respectfully and wholeheartedly disagree with your opinion. But that’s the beauty of an Internet forum.
Looking forward to us having 100s of pages on this site in September next year and not November.

Yeah as if I don't know the situation with this year's draft...

Don't just drive pick 8's value solely to the draft...

The option to negotiate a split was still there...

The option to float it around for a future 1st... Of course I can't say if we tried that or not but it's unlikely given how things have eventuated.

That's what I meant.

Why is it unlikely?

Seems very likely that we explored all those options given how long this has dragged out.

The end result tells a very clear tale - we either don't rate this draft at all, or we think the lack of exposure for the draftees means there will be players we like still on board later in the draft.

We can say 8 should get us more, but maybe 8 in this draft doesn't. It's not the same as Pick 8 last year. And won't be the same as Pick 8 next year. Any club trading for it will only do so should they believe it will get them a particular player they like.

Those highlights are pure cream. Harry and Levi will froth getting those kicks from the centre of the ground.

Will become a fan favourite VERY quickly and bring back a bit of ethnic flavour that we haven't had as much of in recent years.

I can hear the chant now.

"Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaady. Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaady"

Im only just catching up now, but Saad for pick 12 (in points and thats ignoring the late shuffle). Its overs...but not massive overs...I'll sleep on that just fine.

Fogerty for pick 40 (points valuation) is fine too....unlikely to get a player of his quality that late in the draft anyway.

The club website statements are interesting. Profiles on the new players (Saad and Fogarty) and comments from Austin.

Relating to Fogarty, Austin says of Geelong:
“We would also like to thank Geelong for their cooperation in negotiations. Lachie was a contracted player, which we were always respectful of, so we are glad we could reach a trade that has proved to be beneficial for all parties.”

Relating to Saad, he says of Essendon:
Nothing

Sums up the view of dealing with them. Please DO NOT chase Merrett next year. They've wasted two draft periods in a row with their posturing. Just don't trade with them.

I think we gave up more for Saad due to Geelong's willingness to accommodate us with Fogarty.

Could not agree more. Stay away from these clowns.

Not behind Constable at all.

Constable played 2 games this year, Fogarty 6.

He's a neat little player who will help with defensive pressure through the midfield, particularly when our regular mids get fatigued.

Our worst fault this year was lack of defensive pressure once Cripps/Setters fatigued and Williams and Fogarty bring pressure big time.

Yeah anyone saying Fogarty is a D grader is just plain wrong, is a much better player than Lonie who people were wanting.

His tackle pressure is fantastic he has speed to burn and wins plenty of the ball and generally uses it well, can play in multiple positions and would be a good Murphy replacement especially for those that complain about Murphy’s tackling, overall he is a very good young player that will play plenty of footy for our club. 👍

Andrew McLeod was a half-back wasn't he?

Shannon Hurn in his prime would of been a top 10 pick if he was ever traded.
McLeod was a half back in the back half of his career, at his peak he was a midfielder.
