I certainly wouldn’t be calling Hibberd elite. Good/ very good, yes. But not elite. Stats only tell half the story however, Saad doesn’t need to be an accumulator. Just give us 10 punishing kicks a game from the HB line and I’ll be happy. Saad can kick it 60m and get it I50 from the behind the wing - it’s a rare skill !

While they have slightly different attributes, their effectiveness are similar at a similar age.

I get the premium with Saad, but I wouldn't call him elite. If we use him in a different way, it could be more beneficial to the whole

Saad and Zac are far more similar than Saad and Doc. And an easier comarison to make given that both have been traded recently.

And for what it's worth Doc was actually traded for a pick in the 30's, despite taken at pick 12. And why was this so? Because he was out of contract.

Doch was pick 32 or close to it by memory He was out of contract yes, as Saad was, but unlike Saad he had played just 13 games of AFL football meaning that he was at that time still an unproven quantity. The Docherty and Saad trades can't be compared.

Want something good you usually have to give up something good. Club has said for awhile it's not interested in kids and is looking for needs. We got those needs now it's up to those individuals to perform.

Paying unders or overs is largely down to personal opinion and as shown on here there is a healthy dose of both.

No one knows whether what we've done will be a winning strategy or not but it's done so I'm getting on board for an improved 2021.

Based on the last 3 clubs to win multiple flags we have jumped the gun and gone too early loading up, this strategy is more like Brisbane under Voss.

If we are using that logic let's trade all our 1st and 2nd round picks because we can get the ones everyone missed with a dozen 3rd rounders

Saints weren't paying anyone big coin at all so they could afford to splurge and have it bite a little, we already have cripps, curnow, mckay, mcgovern on big coin. That said if the saints get a flag out of their strategy i'll be shocked, the 3 best teams of the last 20 years have barely used a 1st round pick the bring in anyone. The obvious exception is the hawks but they were winning flags before they went down that road and it hasn't served them well since.

Saad + Williams cost more then the difference between minimum cap spend and max cap spend, where is all this cash we still have?

How would you know how much cash we have?

If we had this strategy year after year, then I would have concerns, but this is our first true splurge

Tuohy would be near the conversation. Pearce Hanley. Hibberd from Dons to Dees. Nathan Williams not elite, but very good. Adam Saad. Jeremy Howe. Chris Yarran at a stretch.

Not many players in the AFL possess the skillset of our Saad. The price we paid is about right even uncontracted.

Williams is a pretty unique player too. We have improved our weakest attribute.. SPEED.

I'd said before I missed Willo, dont think I will say the same for JSOS though. Still if we count them both and its 15 years back to Eddie Betts our chances of getting a player who is delisted in 2 years time are around 85%

At the end of the day, we've been worried about winning trades for too long because its the only area we've had a chance to win. Now were in the spot to win actual games of footy, winning trades is a non issue.

We've got Saad, we've got Williams, now let's go out there and play finals.

The good teams get supported in the AFL, particularly through player nominations and trades. Let's go out and become a powerhouse and watch the next generation of the Lynch's the Camerons, the O'Mearas and the Treloars start to want to come to us.

Great post FBI. it amazes me that it seems a lot of people are more concerned with winning trades and sticking it to other clubs than they are about being successful on field. Give me Premierships any day of the week over a perception of being a club that wins at the trade table.

This is my last post for the year.

We had a 1st round pick which is essential to get quality mids - which we need. What did we do with it? We diluted it to get a HBF,

I'm old enough to remember when we got Dorotich. Kernahan. Bradley and Motley in a single year.

Light-weight compliant management at this Club.

Rip it up! Even Saints with $20M in debt is recruiting better than us.

Absolute BS that they didn't get a quality mid this year and then step up with Merritt next year.

The objective is to win a flag not just to improve the list.
