We should trade LOB if the price is half decent. Can't see him break into 22 now we have added Saad Williams and Fogarty- where would he play wing? Would have a lot players in front of him for that spot and not sure he can play anywhere else

LOB's a brilliant kick of the footy. He should be on the HFF.

Statistically same as his years at essendon, lost his run and carry lately.
I appreciate a statistic as much as the next guy, but part of the stats difference is attributable to his recent role change.....which is part of his motivation for wanting to leave.

Willo and Saad are similar kicks, both look for the long option first, rarely using the better short option when they should

Walsh is similar

Of course, gameplan dictates this style
The difference between Willo and Saad is that Willo hits lasers that land on a dime. Saad is inconsistent with his ball drop because of how much he can weave and lean to move into space, as well as how far he will tend to carry the ball before disposing.

If I were coach, I would feel Willo is someone I would be comfortable with in that advanced position, well over Saad and Walsh. Walsh would generally make great decisions and should be able to compensate for his floaters, while Saad will generally buy himself space, but fluffs are few too many I50 entries.

We should just give that second rounder for Hewett and hold onto LOB for another year

Update: Pick 38 may not be enough - if not we can also swap 3rd rounders giving up 48 for their pick 60

List size is the key issue in adding another player now. Will have to give up one of the kids to bring in Hewett.

This is my last post for the year.

We had a 1st round pick which is essential to get quality mids - which we need. What did we do with it? We diluted it to get a HBF,

I'm old enough to remember when we got Dorotich. Kernahan. Bradley and Motley in a single year.

Light-weight compliant management at this Club.

Rip it up! Even Saints with $20M in debt is recruiting better than us.

Absolute BS that they didn't get a quality mid this year and then step up with Merritt next year.

The objective is to win a flag not just to improve the list.

I guess the stats say otherwise

This year and last year have been awesome for us , not 2015 good but pretty bloody good . I love our list right now , probably more so than any time time since our last premiership year . We are sooo close to having a flag winning team I can almost taste it. Buckle up buckaroos the next two years is going to be a ride , just hope we can see it happen live , that would be mighty disappointing if after waiting so long for success we have to do it the bloody television.

Don't know how true this is but a mate just told me we are into Hewett from Swans and LOB might be part of it , reckons Swans wanted Lochie in his draft year , if I remember correctly Hewett played well on Crippa last time and could be an Ed type shutdown replacement. Could be yanking my chain but I guess with a day left time will tell .
would love this

I wouldn't go that far Reg

Hibbard was traded at a similar age and his average disposals were higher than Saad

I certainly wouldn’t be calling Hibberd elite. Good/ very good, yes. But not elite. Stats only tell half the story however, Saad doesn’t need to be an accumulator. Just give us 10 punishing kicks a game from the HB line and I’ll be happy. Saad can kick it 60m and get it I50 from the behind the wing - it’s a rare skill !

Okay, so no creativity at all.

Should I go through all the picks that were failures in the early 20's and the hits in the 40's?

Saints went backward in the 6th year of their rebuild, calling in it a failure, so we aren't done is we miss finals. Then many believed they overpaid for the likes of Hill and Howard. Changes quickly doesn't it

We have enough capital, picks and cash to acquire more bargains if they arise

Williams has already shown he can play through the middle, so we aren't experimenting with playing him in that role
If we are using that logic let's trade all our 1st and 2nd round picks because we can get the ones everyone missed with a dozen 3rd rounders

Saints weren't paying anyone big coin at all so they could afford to splurge and have it bite a little, we already have cripps, curnow, mckay, mcgovern on big coin. That said if the saints get a flag out of their strategy i'll be shocked, the 3 best teams of the last 20 years have barely used a 1st round pick the bring in anyone. The obvious exception is the hawks but they were winning flags before they went down that road and it hasn't served them well since.

Saad + Williams cost more then the difference between minimum cap spend and max cap spend, where is all this cash we still have?

Would better taking a punt on McCartin. For all Jsos' positive attributes, a long way off key forward material.
I think we could roll for a more mobile forward line with Harry and Levi as the key pillars with Cripps, Kennedy, JSOS and Gov floating through. Then you have Gibbons, Fisher, Betts, Cunners, Martin and Fogarty as small forwards, with some running through the middle. Even without Charlie we have plenty of different options and setups. I would play Levi as the lead up, down the line kick with Harry playing deeper

Or I wouldnt be surprised to see Gov as a defender, especially if Matchbank isn't playing.

Name the last elite HBF who was traded in the prime of their career.

They come on the market about as rarely as a quality tall forward does.
Tuohy would be near the conversation. Pearce Hanley. Hibberd from Dons to Dees. Nathan Williams not elite, but very good. Adam Saad. Jeremy Howe. Chris Yarran at a stretch.

Can't say I post much on here, but this time of year I get on a bit and have a look at whats been said. Saad - unbelievable speed and love how he takes the game on. Fogarty - hands, hands, hands, so clean. Williams - I've always liked him, just one of them players. Charlie - fingers crossed. Doc - our true leader, in my opinion, best wishes man. Trades overall - sometimes you have to just say righto, let's go for it, we're close and with the age of our list now, it's time to do that. You lot - keep up the good work. Go Blues.
Always happy to hear from another good Irish boy, your right we got it done now we move on there’s no point in quibbling over not much.
