Not many players in the AFL possess the skillset of our Saad. The price we paid is about right even uncontracted.

Williams is a pretty unique player too. We have improved our weakest attribute.. SPEED.

We have the best inside mid in the Competition. Now we have a couple more guns for him to give it to.

Seems that most clubs' supporters aren't really happy right now for one reason or another except -

Brisbane - Just took on Daniher and Cockatoo and still have two late first rounders in hand.
Saints - Out-bluffed Adelaide with BCrouch and still have Higgins wanting in.
Port - Probably

Gee! From this, I could imagine how he (Austin/Agresta) looked at the Saad deal.

"A deal wasn't working around pick 8, so we were thinking of sending our future first round to * for quite some time. We decided at the last minute to use pick 8 again for Saad, but perhaps we should have used our future first to bring him over'.

o_O

Our future picks should never been on the table. Glad moved from this line of thinking.

I’ve really enjoyed your posts over the last few months RB. The limericks, rhymes and cryptic posts have added a bit of spice. I don’t understand them all but I bloody love them 😂👍 Hopefully you’ll bring the same this time next year.
I’ve been up to date most of the day, but fallen ten pages behind.

I don’t always understand them either!!, but, my hope is to have fun, be creative and entertain the very best supporters of our famous and mighty Blues.

Based on the last 3 clubs to win multiple flags we have jumped the gun and gone too early loading up, this strategy is more like Brisbane under Voss.

I think we've loaded up at just the right time. Most of our younger players who have been getting games are coming into that sweet spot for games played and we have most definitely been light on run and carry.

I think with Saad and Williams our best 22 will look the most balanced it's been in years.

People keep banging on about help for Crippa but he doesn't need it. Setters is more than capable inside and Williams can do the same plus play first receiver, Martin can play there and the club will be backing Kemp and Stocker to play inside mid too. Also regardless of what we think the club is backing Dow at this point to get up as well. Tbh I'd have no problem not seeing Murphy in the seniors much at all next season (throw in Eddie and to a lesser degree Ed as well).

We have a great spread of talent and some awesome potential while also getting in some quality needs.

That doesn't mean GF next season but I'd hope to see 8th as a real chance and anything higher as a plus.

Skull Face - can't fault any of your logic tbh - stay strong and ignore the nuff nuff chest puffers - not only rude but also clueless most of them.

We need strengthening up the midfield so we go out and pick up two HBFers...yee haaa

and that is not a knock on either Williams (who I've always liked) or Saad - both of whom will be more than handy

disagree with your going early thing(partly) I think the list numbers will change lower and then lower again - I stated months ago that picks this year would be worth less than established proven players - we have plenty of fingers crossed could be future A graders omn our list - but we need two of Kemp/Stocker/Dow/SPS to actually become AFL quality players...

Charlie's injury is the real downer in my books - along with Doc's announced issues and likely recovery timeline - nexxt hurdle is Cripps and Harry signing on for meaningful extensions.

Fortunately ( again ) big Levi is still on the books.

Picks 6, 7, 8 is a really strong foundation to rebuild from and they already have half a team, we have set them up to be a contender in the not too distant future IMO.
After academy & F/S picks they move to 8, 9 & 10. In a draft year where VIC Metro & Country kids haven't played any football at all. This year's draft will be the most risky one to pick outside of the very top end in the top 3-5 Vic kids and then SA and WA boys.

From a list management perspective with the cuts, we potentially might have to.

As a previous poster said, LOB is now well and truly surplus to needs. An established inside mid with tagging credentials we'll be screaming for soon enough. If Hewett is there and there's mutual interest in O'Brien, we'd be foolish not to entertain.
Except Sydney don’t need LOB anymore having drafted Florent and Dylan Stephens so doubtful LOB would be involved.

Which is what makes the whole thing for mine, we are paying for what he did at Essendon but we want the player he was while at the GC. I don't know about the rest of you but i'd have rather given up pick 8 for him then then now the only benefit to getting him now is his value is overinflated due to playing at a big vic club for 3 years.

It was only this year that they asked him to play more defensively, most likely to cover deficiencies in their back six. Knowing the way Teague wants his footy played I will guarantee you he will be asked to play his natural game with us.

Not sure why you keep eluding to 2 half back flankers, when William's has shown he can and will play through the middle

We have taken and tracking similar to the Lions, who most thought they over paid for Beams and Cameron
So has DC but he hasn't got any midfield minutes since he was quite good in there, you have to ask the question why? I am not sold on Williams as a full time mid at this stage.

The difference with us Brisbane is they went after a grade proven kids in beams and the Neale, we haven't besides cogs who we didn't get.

Getting Fogarty for nothing doesn't really change the fact we just gave Essendon a free leg up to Cup 17 by overpaying for a HBF. Picks 6, 7, 8 is a really strong foundation to rebuild from and they already have half a team, we have set them up to be a contender in the not too distant future IMO.
This is spot on.Hopefully it's a shit draft.

We should be one of those.

Outside a handful of clubs, a lot of clubs either treaded water or actually look weaker for 2021. We got much stronger.

I don't but Lloyd seems to believe we are fresh out and I am inclined to believe it given we know Williams is on minimum 800k to trigger band 1 compo and Saad was offered 650k by Essendon and we beat that.

My concern was we have gone too early and for the wrong parts. Last year going for a mid/small forward was a better help to our team then 2 hbfs, our trouble this year was mostly disposal going forward and our ability to hit the scoreboard we defended well enough.

I feel like we should have waited until we were at least playing finals before loading up to make that final jump, none of Richmond, Geelong, Hawthorn spent millions chasing players from other clubs when they hadn't played finals.
Geelong 2015, finished 10th. Recruited Dangerfield, Henderson and Scott Selwood. Finished 2nd next season.

Richmond 2016, finished 13th. Recruited Prestia (for pick 6), Nankervis, and Josh Caddy. Finished 3rd next season and won the flag.

I dare say there are a few saints fans who were hoping the crows called their bluff and they could commit that salary space to Treloar.

I’m not sure about his tank, but I don’t see why Saad couldn’t play in the guts for some centre bounces. He looks to have good reflex hands, superb acceleration, and he’s a strong tackler.

You can't seriously be a Carlton supporter and not know by now we will play Williams in the midfield...but you call those who see the positives in our trade period clueless?

I know we should be and as demonstrated in another thread we are, but the love isn't quite forthcoming as yet :)

Could have we done a little better? YES
Could have we done a lot better given outgoings vs incomings? Probably not. Club did its job.
