No, Weitering and Jones attend more 1 on 1's because they are playing on the oppositions predominant forwards who will always be their no.1 target. Their numbers are higher than their oppositions because we leak defensive inside 50s like no tomorrow.

Plow attends an above-average amount of 1 on 1's (compared to other defenders of his ilk) is because coaches like to isolate and expose him.

Seriously this isn't new. Teams have been doing it to him for years. Buckley did it in rd 3 and he got 8 kicked on him, that kid from Port kicked 3 on him. The reason he is always caught 1 on 1 closest to goal is because it's beneficial for the opposition.

If the above doesn't check out for you, then what does?
8? Nah it was closer to 12 maybe 18.

I cant think of a way to frame a response to convey the level of conviction Carlton would of had without betraying confidences.

Wow. Interesting…
Clearly I have no knowledge of the situation, but from the outside I don’t blame Merrett & his camp for back-flipping on any assurances they may have previously made. Would you go out of your way to come to Carlton right now? Apart from Essendon’s earlier than expected improvement, we are obviously a bit of a rabble at the moment.

Merrett is a good player but bringing him in on a long term deal at close to $1 million per year is not what we need right now.

What we need is to get our house in order from top to bottom. Address our cultural issues and coaching issues. I’m hoping the review will directly address these points.

Get this right and we will (a) move up the ladder quickly with our current list and (b) then be in a position to attract quality players on reasonable contracts that are commensurate to what they are worth (which we have not done in the past).

Agree.
Complete the review and make any adjustment required.
Hit the draft.
Moneyball type trades.
Move on the elder statesmen.

If the powers that be really had a high level of conviction that an elite player would leave one of the big Melbourne clubs, we need new powers that be. Obviously it's feasible but him staying was always an entirely likely outcome, perhaps even the most likely.

might be a blessing, quick fixes in Saad and Williams haven't really got the job done for us....not their fault probably, more how they've been used.

We have more problems than what one excellent mid would solve, so let's solve them first.
We tried turning one of them into one excellent mid. It's still a massive problem for us. Its cripps Walsh or bust in our midfield. Love what Ed brings but when he's your 3rd leading ball magnet in the midfield it is a big concern!

So Merrett’s not coming to the blues

Cue the 'Thank God.....overated, soft mid who doesn't make his possessions count' posts. As opposed to the 'silky smooth, elite possession accumulating beast' posts if still available.

😆😆

Never change BF..

It's a bit of a testament to what Carlton has done to me that, when I see a weird positional flip, my mind goes towards making it work ahead of why the fu** would you recruit a MIDFIELDER to play back and move a BACKMAN to the midfield?!!!

You know, instead of trying to convert back pockets into mids, mids into back pockets, KPF, or forward pockets.
We have a long, rich history of recruiting players and forcing them into roles for which they are completely unsuited, I'd hate to see us stop now.

Allow me to play you the ballad of Luke Livingston. U/18 AA CHF, selected at Pick 4, then forced to play full back until his confidence and career were completely shot (admittedly injuries also contributed).

On one hand, ballads are sad. On the other, watching an iguana playing a lute would be worth a look.

O and the boys meant to be on 10am saturday flight... still on as of 1.5hr ago but he thinks they may not fly, due to the NSW cases.
Could be an interesting couple of weeks. At this stage I'd expect us travelling to NSW given AFL Covid-protocals. But with Adelaide the following week, and SA restrictions regarding anyone who has been in NSW (and we play Adelaide after GWS) who knows... Hopefully it all settles down...
