I wish someone would save me a lot more words...
When my daughter was 4 she was an awful chatterbox. One day I told her that everyone is born with a certain number of words which have to last a lifetime, you don’t know how many, and when you run out you die. Am I a bad parent?

I would term you an evil genius, personally.

They aren't targeting Jones and Weiters. Just kicking to a key target.

Exhibit A: Your earlier post...

So using your own words... the story checks out just fine if we treat the targeting of Plowman's "opponent" as an effect of limited pressure entries. (Plow often gets some form of mismatch)
Err...no, just working on raw data. If they can manufacture greater targeting of Plowman on account of his supposed poor defense, why can't they manufacture less entries to the two most accomplished KPDs (using this specific set of data) in the game?

It's not even an average amount...they go much much more to Plowman and Weiters opponent, despite a 60% poorer return...supposedly.

Because not all entries are equal... some are pressured, some are not.

I’d suggest your raw data needs some refinement to be meaningful.

Biggest difference is he isn't marking the ball as much

Biggest difference is that his knees have turned him into cement.

He can't crash and bash at nearly the same level anymore and that was two thirds of his value. If he wasn't marking it it often went to our advantage at both ends of the ground.

Love Levi. Few Carlton players have gotten so much out of so little over the past decade or so that seeing him struggle hurts.

Levi was more mobile, a better mark, a better kick and just a much bigger threat in 2019. He is an absolute shell now compared to his 2019 form in which he started the year as well as anyone in the comp.

Krooz is a much more mobile player than Pittonet. Probably still is today.

H has improved a lot since 2019, however he's never been slow.

It's not so much about height, it's about mobility and being a threat. If you're mobile like Charlie Curnow, you're not slowing down the team despite being tall. At the same time, if you're a bit immobile but still bring other strengths to the table (like Levi's marking in 2019), that helps to justify your position in the team as opponents have to think twice about leaving you in space.

Pittonet can take a mark, but really he does very little around the ground. He's slow as treacle and played better in 2020 than this year.

TDK is athletic and quick, but he's not a reliable mark yet. Once that clicks, I believe he'll be the answer.

Happy to not play Pitto or Levi, but that would mean playing H as a chopout to TDK, which is also fought with danger

Just not a fan of an undersize chopout

Jesus H Christ and all the whores and saints...yes...my point...this is it.

It's average data anyways, but I don't think there is a lot to consider there as individuals IE we can't praise Jones and condemn Plow (to any great extent) on that data alone.

It doesn't confirm any bias that the opposition are targetting Plowman, as they are targeting other defenders to a much greater extent.

The only thing that stands out like great swinging pendulous testicles, is the fact that Carlton defenders attend more...significantly more...one on one contests than all other teams.

I don't think this is a good thing.

Not sure Jack's that good as a 3rd tall anyway, his best moments are either scrapping/crumbing/1%er efforts (sometimes close to goals) or as that hff/hhf link player where he makes a good decision that puts us in a better position to score (like that kick back inside from the right forward flank the other week).

He's not a great mark, although does bring it to ground a bit and will follow up with a 2nd/3rd effort once it hits the deck. He's far from a good shot on goal, particularly set shots, but can kick a blinder in general play occasionally.

Kind of a utility player. I think his best work is as a forward flanker or inside mid (/tagger on similarly sized players). he can swing back but I'm yet to be truly convinced about that due to his leg speed. One thing I'm fairly confident of is that, at least right now, he really ain't a 3rd tall despite being listed at 194cm.
Imo the perception of JSOS is clouded by his unreliable set shot goal kicking (less than 50%) - If it was sitting closer to 70%, then he becomes a very valuable player.

This is a development issue - Casboults goal kicking went from similar levels (if not worse) up to around 70% after a season or two with Sav Rocca. Always astounds me how little effort seems to be put into improving goal kicking.

Why the hell wouldn’t we put all our forwards under similar tutelage?

Because the Footy Department soft cap cuts meant we let Sav (and Diesel) go :'(

I hope the goal kicking coach comes back next year. Every club should have one.

Imagine being taught how to kick for goal and it works. Then the coach leaves and you change the way you kick or go back to old habits. How hard is it to remember the good action you learnt that worked? FMD footballers are highly paid dumb human beings.

I was talking about it a little while back but Fev has said he used to go to public grounds after training and kick for goals on his own because the sports scientists wouldn't allow him to do it at the club due to workload management. Maybe it's changed a bit since Fevs time but I wouldn't be surprised if it's still similar.

I’d guess that it’s gotten worse...

It really is ridiculous.

So Merrett’s not coming to the blues

Hard to get him over given his club are a game and 10% ahead of us right now

Had they been 15-17th as we had hoped and had we been 6-8th as we had hoped things may well have been different...

We do need to bring in a talented mid though - not many choices left unless we do something completely under the radar
