I just want us to win more games than we lose. If Voss can somehow manufacture that, good.

Another fun stat.

Voss won 13 games in his 1st year at Bris (with aging dinosaur players) and 10 games in his 4th (during the "shambles" and go home factor).

The last coach of Carlton to win more than 10 games....Ratts in 2011.

So if Crazy Vossy gets the gig, we must be a chance of bringing Fev back too, and if Fev is back then Robbo must be next. Everything that is old will be new again.
Won't ever seen Fev in a room with Voss - hates his guts. Know this as I had a dinner with him and he told me point blank, has no shame in speaking about it. Said he is the worst coach.

Has there ever been a coach who previously was a failure as a senior coach, got turfed, was then a long time assistant to a coach who has won nothing who then went onto another club and won a flag as senior coach?
Leigh Matthews was sacked by Collingwood. Yes he won a flag, but one in 10 years. Voss was given 5 years and started just two years after retirement.

But seriously, I'm OK with this if it's true.

New coach who has been in the seat before, made mistakes, and gone back to do a lengthy apprenticeship. No existing friendships/relationships with established players to influence selection. Not a flag assistant, but a highly decorated triple-premiership captain.

Poor record as senior coach isn't really surprising given the context. Seems we've gone through a fairly exhaustive process, so if he gets the gig I'll trust that we're confident his coaching record has more to do with his relative experience at the time than it does some inherent inability to coach.

Not a sexy appointment, but may still be a good one. Get a couple of new, quality assistants to support him and launch for 2022. Could certainly argue that we don't need a coaching prodigy - we need someone with a sustainable gameplan and the conviction to set standards and hold the group to them.

Whelmed. Not overwhelmed, not underwhelmed - just whelmed.

Ladhams apparently told to test the market. If Voss is our new coach I wonder if that would be incentive for Ladhams to look at us? I know we just re-signed Pittonet, but I think a TDK/Ladhams duo sharing ruck/forward time would make us a much more athletic team. No disrespect to Pittonet as he does try hard, but I do see him more as a backup than best 22.

Flag? My standards are low these days. I'll be happy with regular finals appearances lol.

100% this. We need to target a ruck in the off season.

Has there ever been a player who two years after retiring, and with zero AFL coaching experience, got given the Head Coach gig?

I like Fev but did he ever get the most out of his ability? for all we know Voss demanded more than what Fev was willing to give.

If a true professional said the same of Voss I'd treat it more seriously.

And if he wasn't a champion player he wouldn't be getting a look in. He has been knocked back from a number of roles now. We are taking the one everyone passed on.
