Don't think he was ever there to be honest. Not on a knock on Russell, but Darren Burgess has worked for Arsenal, Liverpool, the Socceroos as well as the teams he's had great results with in the AFL.

AR is still well regarded for sure, but he benefitted hugely from a high profile whilst Hawthorn were winning and helping several players overcome long term issues.
If you listen to his Dyl & Friends chat, the strongest point he made about Hawthorn's success was unity...consistency of messaging from coaches, fitness staff, club docs and so on.

He's had exactly zero weeks of those conditions to work under at Carlton.

AR has been incredibly underwhelming.

I am unsure how I feel about AR overall. Honestly I have no idea if his input has been amazing or underwhelming as I am on the outside.

However I note many people said Charlie Curnow was cooked and AR got him back on the park. I give this a lot of credit.

He obviously improved, but was frustrating as - what are your views on Dow?
think it's all about belief - his pace off the mark is so good - no way have I given him away - parish will always mean I maintain hope - love how much work he has put into his kicking - finally his breakout season 2022..........🤞

Would love for Voss to take Dow and Setterfield under his wing next year. If those two can go to the next level, it would go a long way to propelling us up the ladder.

I think players like Stocker/Kemp and Kennedy will go wonderful under Voss.

Separate issue Funk, attitude and application, and not one that I disagree with you on.

I'm talking solely fitness and physique, and I imagine the high performance team are the ones dictating diet and training programs. If they've decided or been instructed to get a player leaner and faster, that's going to mean a different program to one that's designed to bulk a player up.

I'm curious as to whether the apparent focus on running power rather than physical strength was Teague-driven or Russell-driven. And by extension, will Voss coming on board be likely to see a shift towards strength (at least for certain players).
HP can dictate diet all they want. It's on the player to follow the diet given to them.

To his pace, i'd add in his ability to find the ball in congestion in the first place - A grade qualities. We saw it in patches and it was exciting and at times dominant. We need more than patches. I think he will have a massive 22

AR has 6 flags to his name 4 at Hawks, 1 at both Port and Essendon and also he has been acknowledged for his elite work in extending the careers of three of Hawthorn’s greatest players — Shane Crawford, Shaun Burgoyne and Cyril Rioli.
AR has a resume that well and truly stands up.
Many players also speak highly of his work to set players up in the right mind set also.
People like AR do not just lose that ability overnight especially after proving it over a few decades.

his strength to stand up in tackles has also improved out of no where as well.

Enormous. We need it. And I want to add Cunners into the mix more frequently (all fingers crossed for a full recovery). Another I believe to have A grade potential. Now that would be dynamic midfield mix. Our weakest line is suddenly looking bloody strong
