Can't see this guy as a firsts player, more just back up if we lose a white or a rusty or a bower. We trade out a fringe player in Grigg and pick another up and he is at the right age that if he does come on he is the same age as our main group. Can see a few being delisted this year.

I've seen a lot of him in the VFL and I think he'd almost certainly start 22 games for you particularly with some of the exits. I know he hasn't played a lot of AFL but IMO he's a better player than Grigg, Thronton, or Chris Johnson has been for you guys. I think guys like Wigan or even Robinson could be pushed out as well (as a flow on effect).

the thing i like about laidler one will free up gibbs. and wants to play for carlton, playing for carlton is a key area n playing with judd

Icke will be on Trade Week Radio on afl.com.au very shortly.

Carlton apparently asked about Laidler last year, so it's someone Carlton have had their eye on for some time.

I'm hearin ya but the 3 gents you have mentioned are not in our best 22 and have only played a back up role like i mentioned in the last year and if I'm honest i believe Robinson will play mid-fieald or bust, just too slightly built at the moment, Robbo thrives on the contest of down and dirty on ball contests. Wigans has retired. If he can push a half back or back pocket out great for him, i look forward to it.

Grigg, Thornton and Chris Johnson played a combined total of 25 games between them last season. You wouldn't find a single Carlton supporter that believes Chris Johnson is in our best 22, and it became obvious that Thornton was not part of our plans from the middle of the season.

Grigg played well in the 2nd half of the season once he got a game but not many considered him in our best 22 when everyone is fit.

By "Wigan" I assume you mean Wiggins, who in reality has never been part of our best 22 and was a career depth player. He has now retired, so getting Laidler isn't going to push him out as he is already gone.

It's all well and good to say that Laidler will push Robinson out, but is that really accurate? Robinson isn't a defender and plays a completely different role to Laidler.

I'm not against getting Laidler by any stretch of the imagination, in fact I'd be all for it - but it is a stretch to suggest that he'll be a walk up start in our 22. Particularly given the fact that the names you mentioned as candidates for him to replace in that 22 are either retired and not at the club any more, nowhere near our best 22, or in the team to play a completely different role to what Laidler would be.

I would have thought one of Grigg, Thornton or Chris Johnson would be in your team pretty much every week. You could probably add Walker to that list too. I don't know about best 22 but if he's ahead of all those players he'd surely regularly get a game as those guys played a fair bit of footy for you.

You have an aging Scotland and young Gibbs who I think you'd like to play a little less as a defender. IMO there is a regular spot at Carlton for him if he makes the move.

Icke on Trade Week Radio:

Laidler should get done

Trades will be done one by one

Jacobs is better than 33, Adelaide aren't budging

Walker is of interest to WB/Port, may stay at Carlton

Happy for players to test the market

O'halpin/Thornton have tested the market, not a lot of interest, probably will stay

Spangher, doesn't tend to play on best forwards, no real interest

Motlop, no interest

Kreuzer will play more forward

Collins can play half-forward/midfield

"Obviously Carlton have approached him at some stage and convinced him there would be better opportunities up there at Princes Park," Wells told afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio on Monday morning.

"It's fair to say Carlton have been interested in Jeremy for a couple of years. They brought his name up at last year's trade period as well.

"This year they brought his name up at the start of the week and through his management they've convinced him that he should go.

"He's received a good contract offer from Carlton and we do respect that. It's not a total surprise."

No thanks - I'd rather Lucas or Yarran go there whom both offer much much more value than Robbo. I think after trade week Robbo might be relegated to the 2nd's outside of any huge improvement in his game.

Both outside players would assume if Robbo does go in it will be as in and under not outside. I think Yarren and Lucas both wingers where as robbo on ball.

Cats are mad if they let this kid go and allow Milburn to play on.

Our gain big time he's been stalled by their rock solid back six, he'd be playing at any other club. Looking like ours. Right age mature body now ready to blossom great target.

My thoughts exactly, can't believe Milburn is going on.

Good player, plays as an undersized CHB in our seconds and does very well. Very good body strength for his size so he can get away with it, and makes good decisions with the ball in hand. He lacks the genuine closing speed that Gillies has (thank goodness we're not losing him as well) but is very versatile in terms of smalls and talls and has good endurance. Should slot into your back six well.

It is an important need, but are we selling Davies short, just now?

I don't think so. Davies can definitely play as a big back pocket. Is athletic enough to play on bigger and smaller.

Also, from what I hear, is an elite kick, so won't be too much worse than Gibbsy.

Think of Laidler and Russel off the HBF. Gibbs up the ground as a link man.

This would add so much to our structure. Of course, Tuohy will get another year to develop, and will no doubt get time when the inevitable injuries occur.

Jacobs is a ruckman. Laidler is a half back flanker.

They are incomparable in value.

I would have thought two previously rookie listed players who have struggled for opportunity due to strength in their position at their club, who have obvious talent and are about the same age have plenty in common.

I know where you're coming from with the difference of position, but this should have been reflected in the value of draft picks exchanged ie Jacobs should be worth more.

In the end, we didn't get quite the right value for Jacobs, but he was out of contract and going back to his home state which Laidler is neither of.

Because we didn't quite get correct value for Jacobs doesn't mean that Geelong are willing to do the same.

I hope one of our 2nd rounders is now used to secure Laidler, I'd be reasonably happy with that.

I agree mate. We have had to play Gibbs back on the flank because we need someone who can use the ball well coming out of the back half. It seems that Laidler can use the ball pretty well, and he's strong enough to handle some physical play. Adding him would allow us to move Gibbs into the midfield in a more attacking role, so I am all for this trade going down.

Papers about to be lodged. Is now a Blue!
