Andrew Walker - we all know about this one. Standing next to Kouta looking like brothers according to the commentary.:D

Ricky Mott - There's the big bodies back up ruck we desperately needed.

Glen Bowyer - The former Hawk on the comeback trail

Jordan Bannister - Former Bomber who has been labelled as not good enough. Hoped to get Morrison for the CHB slot ahead of the Bowyer selection.

Adrian De Luca - There's the developing ruckman.

Steve Kenna - small goalsneak. Has some decent reviews. By some accounts a bargain late in the draft.

Let's get Will Gayfer in the rookie draft.

from carltonsupportersclub.cjb.net :

PP2 Carlton ANDREW WALKER BENDIGO PIONEERS 18/05/85 189 83
#57 Carlton RICKY MOTT SYDNEY 21/04/81
#63 Carlton GLEN BOWYER HAWTHORN 28/12/79
#69 Carlton JORDON BANNISTER ESSENDON 31/10/82
#72 Carlton ADRIAN DELUCA PORT MELBOURNE 15/05/82
#75 Carlton STEPHEN KENNA BOX HILL HAWKS 8/10/81

Obviously whoever we got with the PP has to be a good one, most footy experts believe we have grabbed a real gem with Walker but it didn't really matter, anyone in the top 5 will be a standout player.

Grabbing Ricky Mott was a smart move, he's still quite young and is capable of matching it with the best in the league. He will thrive on the challenge of trying to take No.1 ruck mantle off French especially as Big Barney has not lived up to anyones expectations whatsoever.

"A left of centre idea might be to grab Ricky Mott, the guy who was at the Swans the other year. He did really well in the absence of Stafford but couldn't maintain his form on his return. He was running around in the WAFL last season but I am not sure on how he went."

Glen Bowyer has virtually been thrown a lifeline and should be a Pagan 'revival' player - again, a reasoned choice, he could be very good value for us.

Jordan Bannister was a waste of a pick IMO, there are still plenty of other young untried junior players who didn't get taken and I would have preferred to grab one of them instead of this guy. We may have been better to keep Freeborn or Fletcher at the club as I don't think there is much difference between them all. may be proven wrong on this but he was certainly one that I didn't want at the club.

Adrian DeLuca was unlucky to not get drafted a few years back. His results at the draft camp were outstanding and he seemingly slipped through the net. By grabbing him, it gives the club three recognised ruckman which was a real priority IMO.

Steve Kenna was another smart pickup as he really carved them up in the VFA last year, he will add further depth to the midfield and gives us more pace around the ground. I should also point out that there are a number of people on BigFooty who are saying that picking up Kenna at #75 was a "steal" - that's gotta be good news.

Overall we have done quite well given the amount of late picks we had but it does concern me that apart from Walker, we basically went for recycled players from other clubs. We have left two spots on the list of which we know one will be used for Stevens so it is very important that we use the other one wisely in addition to the rookie picks.

The decision to take Bowyer ahead of Brisbane's Morrison is one that will divide a lot of Blues fans. No-one will know what the right answer to that one is until about halfway through season 2004 when they have both had a chance to show their wares. Let's hope we don't end up with egg on our face with this one.

An interesting look at their ages and it shows that they all (apart from Walker) can & should be ready for senior football next year as they are all 22-23yo. I guess the train of thought was to find readymade players to bolster the mid-range age bracket of players. This should take a lot of pressure of guys like Livingston, Beasy, Sporn & Wiggins etc and allow time for youngsters like Simpson & Croad to fully develop in the seconds.

This Gayfer fellow, is that Mick Gayfers son, or are they no relation?

Nick Stevens should be able to train with Carlton starting tomorrow (26/11/03)
