For those bemoaning the Hird stuff. If he was to come as an assistant to Rutten from here then I'd be ok. I know there are a lot of anti-Hirds around. I am too, but probably in a different way. I think he was royally shafted last time. Went along with his senior assistant/mentor sports science connections, yet somehow took the blame for it and the assistant/mentor was given his role while he spent a year humiliated in the wilderness. All through that year the assistant/mentor was a "character" on the mike because he was smoking meth.

So, sentimentally I wouldn't mind Hird coming back. However, the man has been broken. He's sought the ultimate release more than once. There is no way he could front the club at press conferences with that, especially as a young team will continue to serve up the occasional absolute rubbish even if they generally improve. I also wasn't a huge fan of an overly defensive game plan.

Where I would accept Hird back is as an assistant. Perhaps as the team defense guy. Let him make it clear he's not interested in the top job. He does bring a lot of spirit to the club etc.

I hope the club does a full external review and publishes it to the members. Then puts every key position at the club to a vote. In the meantime, a coaching panel with Rutten, Carracella, and Hird for next year is fine by me. Obviously, there is a good chance that Rutten will be looking elsewhere through the year as well because it would be pretty hard to forgive the club for what they did to him this week. However, if the team has some success across the whole season next year, off-field is running a lot more smoothly following the implementation of the external review he could stay.

It would be a year where those off-field changes are made, then the club and he has to make plans to go through a year-long process about whether or not he's the long-term option. If not, they can set benchmarks for on-field performances that the team needs to make through each third of the year. No more spike in the form to gloss over a year of less than mediocre. Game plan and fitness program that wins games and brings consistent efforts at the start of the year, through the cold winter months, and is sustained at the end of the season.

I thought being a Browns fan was hard, but it was just conditioning for being a Dons fan. Good on you North, nice coup.

Yikes
Let's see what the Dons presser throws up after the browns "he's a hell of a quarterback" presser.

Stop tagging Heppellfreak, seriously

They obviously aren't going to show up and embarass themselves.
They were a very clear troll from the beginning.

Seeing Jade make such a public thing of it gave them what they want, and too many others have continued to give them oxygen since.

Are you all as delusional as this?
Most of us agree with the first half, I think.

As to the second half, Clarkson would paper over the cracks and maybe make us a contender, which is good, but the club is in an unsustainable death spiral while the CEO, board, and coteries have the dynamic that they have (some names: Campbell, Sheedy, Dodoro). One would hope that if Clarkson had come here he'd be able to influence some of that, but who honestly knows, and no one ever will now. Maybe it's just too much of a dumpster fire for even his aura to douse.

On the other hand, with where we are now, it may finally trigger the clean out of middle management that is clearly required and has been an issue for several years.

Or they could hire Hird. And if they do that I can't decide if the membership numbers would halve or double. I think on BigFooty it would halve, and outside of it maybe double.

I hope Hird is smart enough to tell them to get ****ed.

Do you think he's enjoyed this year? Regardless of what you think of him as a coach, he would be extremely disappointed with this season and thn he's had this absolute shmozzle to deal with this week. If you can't feel for the guy then you need toget your head out of your ass

Lol.

I have no emotions towards a second year coach, I think its ridiculous to even consider feeling sorry for him. He's paid to do a job, he's currently doing that job extremely poorly.

Also this is the caper. It's bloody ruthless, theres always going to come a time (for any coach) where they're extremely under pressure...its the nature of the role.

I give zero craps if he hasn't enjoyed his year. No one is bigger than the club. He's just another short story within a period of mediocrity.

do people actually think we will get rid of Dodo and Campbell and all the others that stink?

I just can't see it happening, the club doesn't have the balls to dislodge the coteries.

Wow. A whole lot of stupid here.

Oh feel for the guy and he has handled himself with class. That doesn’t escape the truth that I don’t think he should be coach. Should’ve never got the job in the first place and now it’s time to go.

Yes. Hopefully this will be the recommendations from the external review (not that Barham needs the review to make changes, it's just a lot cleaner).

Still taking drugs, hallucinating ones this time.

Surely it's media beat up. There's no way this external review can end in a recommendation of "well, how about Hird again?"

It's not popular but I'd be happy to have Hird back. Call me delusional but I could see strength and a bit of magic in a Buckley Senior Coach / Hird assistant combo - Just like the 80'a at Ainslie.
Why not, we are used to accepting mediocrity. You'd have to be a psychopath to take on the Essendon gig.

That's why you hire Hird before you initiate the external review, duh

That said, probably a media beat up. They might want him but he'd have to be completely daft to accept the job.
