What was Barhams weird explanation of what this external review was? He wanted inside intel on why Geelong are so good. No positions in the footy department are under review. It's about other clubs just handing over data for us to browse at our own leisure. Bizarre

I swear he said the word “administrative” but I can’t find it in the clip. This is what I did find about the review specifically in the PC (times based on club website video):

7:00 speaking more broadly about being an agent of change and how the club had to rebuild its finances after the saga and sort out the hangar, but now it’s time to pour time energy resources and money into footy (“focus on footy”?)

8:20 review is not just the footy department, the board will be externally reviewed as well. Didn’t seem keen on the idea of a smaller board of directors.

8:50 Campbell is contracted will be here next year.

10:25 can’t wait for review to decide the coach, will have to do both at once if we decide to pursue a new coach

10:45 specifically asked about whether footy department positions are under review and responded with “no positions are under review”. Wants a direct comparison with what Geelong, Collingwood, Richmond, etc and what are they doing. Thinks our list is okay but wants someone else to look at it and say whether it really is good.

12:50 one of the big 4 like PWC or something to help us structure it, Dorothy Hisgrove will run it from the boards point of view and we’ll bring some football people in with her. (Hisgrove is from PWC, so is Brasher, that’s why he brought her on to Essendon’s board).

I think he’s referring to an earlier review “it doesn’t look like the club has improved” implies that they’ve had time since then to action reccomrndations.

Regarding his remark on coaching at 10.25, given Rutten has one year remaining on his contract, it seems to me that he could feasibly stay on at least until the review is completed, rather than plonking someone in without process again.

We wouldn't even be having this conversation if Rutten was a past Essendon player. Hird in his second year was given a pass for missing finals from 10-3 and 138% after round 14. Literally lost 8 of the last 9 games with losing margins of 71, 67, 96, 94 included in that stretch. Can you imagine if Rutten did that?

I'm just sick of how this football club operates. Knights got zero support and Hird gets probably one of the most expensive coaching teams ever assembled. Rutten gets disrespected for no good reason.

I'd be ok with specifically making sure we don't employ Essendon people until the club stabilises.

Hird had a pretty avg team after Knights destroyed the club with his break neck offensive game plan but no defense. Hirdy had the bombers up in the top couple in the league at times only soft tissue injurys which we still seem to suffer from and drugs saga weighed pretty heavily on the boys. Hird coached teams were good to watch.

those soft tissue injuries by the way can be directly linked back to Hird's decision to put the cart before the horse with our 'sports science' program.

We are supposed to be a club not a ducking bank better to lose a million dollars next year win the flag and be a ducking club that cares about its people and members then make 100 million and continue the way we are. The club is not here to make money it’s here to win games of football for its members and supporters and the money flows from that which by the way is not required other than what the club needs to succeed. We are not BHP there is no owner the only thing that matters financially is we have enough money to run a successful club.

Barham has been on the board 7 years, he's had plenty of time to ask questions.
He is leading a fractured board.
It is dumb Brasher is still on the board.
I wouldn't say Barham has control. He's only in place because Sheedy appointed him.


All are valid solid points that we don't dismiss out of hand because he doesn't name a challenger.
