Buy him a house set among some Napa Valley vineyards.

Has family down the Bass coast, stick him in a yurt down the end of Wilson’s prom without phone or internet.

I think if they spill many more positions they’ll end up without a quorum.

I think also that if Wellman and Brasher had resigned at the same time it would’ve triggered an election which is probably why it’s been spaced out.

Same again now if more than two elected directors resign at the same time. If all elected directors resign then we go into transition arrangements which also triggers an election.

Also, this Andrew Muir character isn’t shy is he? Takes credit for all the good stuff that’s happened as well as renaming the Tullamarine facility to “The Hanger” (sic)

Essendon Football Club

Board Director
2015 – Present
ESS_logo.png

Andrew is on the board of Essendon Football Club where he chairs the Nominations Committee and is a member of the Remuneration Committee. His appointment in 2015 followed a lifetime of barracking for the Club—with Andrew having been raised in a family of proud Bombers supporters who have attended matches together to watch their beloved team ‘Fly Up, Up!’ since he was a child. Andrew grew up an Essendon local and went to school opposite Windy Hill.

Over his seven years on the board, Andrew has made significant contributions to the Club, including being instrumental in re-establishing good governance and compliance following the supplements saga which occurred before his tenure.

As Nominations Committee Chair, Andrew identified and introduced greater skills to Essendon’s board—including introducing a skills matrix to ensure the board had the right mix of expertise—and increased its diversity by proactively helping to recruit Essendon’s three female board members.

Additionally, he was a key figure in the development and launch of Essendon’s world-class training facility at Tullamarine. Andrew initiated, oversaw, and facilitated the branding of “The Hanger”.

Most recently Andrew has championed for positive and real change at the Club to reset its culture and resharpen its focus to be one of achieving sustained on field success. He was one of the board members to initiate the independent external review currently underway and is excited at the prospect of playing a supporting role in actioning the opportunities it uncovers.

Cockroaches do generally have a certain stench about them.
Also, they are fairly resilient creatures. Forget insect spray, hit them with the heel of your shoe, they won't survive that.

Only way to get rid of Dodo is if all members are permitted to pummel him with their shoes, if he survives, he truly is the cockroach King!

All hail the cockroach King!!!

As stupid as Sheedy has been lately, he’ll be more destructive off the board than on it. He needs to be managed and controlled, not cast out.
That's like bringing the horse into Troy even though you know there are Greeks in it

Another Essendon person called Andrew with homophonic issues. Where does it end?

The guy's got his own website. What sort of madness are we dealing with here.

Would like more info on the skills matrix implemented. Hasn't seemed to help too much so far. We still have morons on the board.

As far as diversity goes, could not care less. It's like a political party saying they want 30-40% of the front bench to be female. How about we choose the best people possible to represent the club, Female or Male, we seem to fail at this, as do the major political parties.

If we have an all Female board, as long as they do the job properly, what's the problem. Sydney have a no dickhead policy, we need one for the board first and foremost.

So anything else happened since yesterday?

You know we've gone full Essington when someone tells Barham that he's out because they found a poll on big footy from a google search.
Couldn't have been someone from the club though, they don't know how to use Google it seems.

And I'm not referring to our employed/formerly employed CEO, and the religious views of some organisation that he sits on a board with. Let's have a look at the Banking Royal Commission firstly.

Should not have been employed on that basis alone IMO.

Shambles of a club that feeds the oppo supporters on a daily basis. The Hawkes have the biggest off field story since the Saga, yet we still continue to hit the headlines due to uour incompetence.

Muir

Ripped that one straight from bigfooty, typos and all.

I wonder if that’s why they want to roll the board again. Sigh.

There’s no useful mechanism in the constitution for a board member to be removed from their position.

As much as he acts like he’s of unsound mind, I don’t think we’re at the point of being legally able to prove it, which would be the purview of his family and his doctors anyway.

The only other option is to revoke his membership. I can only imagine how that would go down with the general supporter base.

Short of asking him to resign, and him refusing, and then going to the media to trash each other and drag the club through even more mud in the process, I’m not sure what else can be done.
Immortal.

Some fail to understand how the appointment of a club CEO works - Any CEO position must be approved by the AFL who have knocked back candidates in the past - So obviously, Thorburn's appointment was endorsed by the AFL who I suggest was fully aware of his background - Unfortunately the media chose to ignore this because they wanted to run their own narrative - The saddest thing is that many in society and what is even sadder is that many in this thread failed to use analytical skills to question the media's narrative - Do this and we could have experienced a more reasoned debate in the last 24 hours.

His views and that of his church do not align with mine at all - however they’re also pretty part and parcel for the devout of basically every religion on earth except Judaism.

Really the thing that concerned me most of all was that he was to chair an external review and came out the other side as CEO…

This is common in all industries - Do you realise that Geoff Walsh just started a footy operations role at StKilda, after completing an external review of the club.

I can only imagine the main-boards, as they love a good pile-on at the best of times. I wouldn't be seeking out the HUN for anything, let alone balanced and nuanced discussion.
Religion is unfortunately one of those ones that always gets the fires burning brightest. The disappointing thing is that it never even should have got to this point. Thorburn should have either not been in consideration due his time at NAB and/or Essendon being aware of the potential conflict with Church on a Hill, or they shouldn't have cared about that but had statements at the ready when they appointed him to explain it.

So we've screwed over Thorburn, screwed over the fanbase no matter what side of the argument you may be on, and once again shown the world that we're a 7th rate organization that should really just be taken out the back and put out of its misery

Do you realise that all club CEO appointments must be ticked off by the AFL, so obviously Thorburn had AFL endorsement and i guess they would have been aware of his background - I'll also add that Thorburn was sent to EFC by the head-hunting firm Ernst and Young who again would have been aware of Thorburn's background - So you had three layers of bodies who endorsed Thorburn's appointment - My experience is that once the media cranks up their narrative the sheep in society blindly follow.

Apparently the board were trying to organise a root in a brothel but as the saying goes.....

Two wrongs don't make a right.

And there we are. Exactly why people who are Christian are posting about feeling uncomfortable at the moment, comments like this. Christian = Bigot.
Christians (or any religion) which discriminates against homosexuals = bigots. It's practically the dictionary definition.

"a person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction...... on the basis of their membership of a particular group."

Your religion doesn't shield your bigotry, nor the consequences of being openly bigoted.

Plus most Christians aren't members of homophobic churches and any decent person, when asked, would disavow bigotry.

The Christians who want to protect bigots can get in the bin along with the bigots.

You have the right to believe whatever you want, but just because you do it in a group doesn't make it less bad, in fact it probably makes it worse.

As much as Barham has balled up 2/3 of his biggest jobs since taking over as president, let's not forget that Andrew Muir was VP of a board that:
1. Re-signed XC without notifying the members, and with allegations of inappropriate behaviour and a botched coaching transition plan designed to cover up his own botched re-signing of Worsfold
2. Was Brashers VP and in bed with the coterie up to their eye balls in their influence over the club.
3. Was anti-external review, and so is no guarantee to actually implement any structure changes recommended as he likely doesn't think anything needs to change. Basically looks at the membership and bank sheet numbers as a measure that the club is fine and ignores continual failure of the footy department
4. Is part of the Dodoro acolyte club with Sheedy and has protected and allowed Dodoro to feud and strain relationships with the last 3 GMs of football, making Josh Mahoney's role (who has been central to the coaching search and list management this offseason) called into question.

Are we sure a new board led by this guy is going to be any better than a board with Barham as President?
Surely once this external review comes in, and they implement it in full, the CEO search gets handed to EY in full, and Barhams shooting from the hip gets less opportunity to rear its head.

TL;DR = I don't like Muir anymore I do Barham, at least Barham is trying (emphasis on this) to pull us out of mediocrity

Wanted Yze if he was able to bring Choco with him but who knows if that was part of his pitch and hard to see Choco come back here after being *ed around last time when we appointed JW. Don't mind Scott and he's growing on me, have to laugh at Sheeds backstabbing his former players (who wanted to keep Rutten) to side with Barham on the pretense of wanting Clarko but really wanting Hird. That worked out well for him, was *ed the moment he torpedo'd any chance of Clarko and saw Walls appointed to the panel.

Yes he's been cancelled on account of his church, he never should've been appointed in the first place because of the bullshit he pulled while in charge of NAB but these people tend to always fall upwards.

You can't pull the I don't have all the same beliefs as my church, mention nothing while also being a chairmen of said church, you would think he was just a regular Christian going to church weekly the way people are acting here. He's chairmen of an extremist Christian church which has said some despicable stuff, which he doesn't actually agree with some of it but won't exactly mention what that is.

He was told us or the church and he choose his faith, * him and anyone who feels sorry for him please read up on him, he's not someone you should ever feel sorry for.

Yep - Agreed.
I was happy for him to be excluded based on the NAB history rather than what he actually copped it for.
But the club has done the right thing because you cannot be in those leadership positions of two entities with wildly opposing views.
No I certainly don't feel sorry for him per se but our due diligence - and that of EY btw - has been horrible and is making us look like fools - but that might just be the correct view.
It is certainly pretty poor that he was even in contention for the role given the goings on at NAB - I work in the accounting industry so I am well aware... but you'd think that half the board and/or selection committee would be even more aware of his NAB time.

Also agreed on Yze - and the bit about Chocco is spot on too!
