Hmmm ... but throwing Wallis to the constabulary puts it outside AFL control - no "bringing the game in to disrepute" there.
fascinating isn't it, and to see just who they'll happily thrown millions at, and who they have 'gone' either via the courts or VicPol. Wonder if anyone at EFC knows exactly which category they fall into?

This is going to be fascinating. How will the moral crusaders of the HTB react to what appears to be a straight up clear cut case of extortion.

Will they condemn it with their finely honed moral sensibilities; or will they engage in a cognitive dissonance acrobatic display?

Stay tuned to find out!
Honesty I'll probably get a woody

Elliott: Essendon employed the services of Gatto
Essendon: We had no dealings with Gatto
Garth: Yes, I was approached by Essendon to find out some things
Essendon: Oh, did you say Gatto? Yeah, we did deal with him, but he approached us
You.suggesting Essendon are liars?

But if the AFL, who really aren't looking to do us any favours.....

That is the biggest load of shit I've ever heard.

All the AFL have tried to do from day 1, is look after Essendon. To the detriment of the code, other clubs, other players and other supporters.

That's actually been the whole problem!

So Gatto was helping Charter who had clear evidence that would have got the players off but he refused to testify on their behalf? Either someone is lying or someone is truly a shit bloke (Charter). If you read between the lines that Charter felt 'badly treated' than that would imply he wanted cash to testify.

Yes and no. The AFL certainly tried to help Essendon but they refused to take the deal with ASADA unlike Cronulla.

To the detriment of the other clubs and the game is debatable. Form a moral point of view I kind of agree with you but the financial impact of not trying to help Essendon could have had huge ramifications if a side was not able to be fielded and TV revenue etc was cut and if Essendon had gone into bankruptcy.

Its one of the few times where I feel the AFL tried to walk a fine line and largely did OK but the other side, Essendon were too arrogant/stubborn to take the deal and put this to bed.

Man, St Kilda are $11m in debt FFS!

Essendon could not field a team for a decade and still walk back in with 60k members and get primetime fixtures from the AFL.

FWIW, I also think there were people at AFL House who were covering their own arses which drove their actions more than 'the good of the game' that they'd have us believe.

And injecting players with experimental drugs isn't? Sorry Lance, but these men were made fallguys while everyone else got paid holidays, pay outs and new jobs, or pithy fines (talking about staff here) or still ON staff.
The PED stuff has been dealt with. The players have done their time.

This is blackmail. And apart from labelling it despicable as an afterthought you can't seem to focus on anything else than Evil Essendon.

How was Elliot made a scapegoat? His father just wanted to make a buck out of it

Think the HTB interest will be in the dirt they say they have.
The dirt, or the mud?

"Mud sticks, even if it isn't true".

That is allegedly the threat made. "I will make shit up to make you look bad".

Anyone who takes the information from a blackmailer who's said that at face value should probably have a think about things

Others had better luck

Employees and employers negotiate settlements all the time with confidentiality clauses signed.

This may well be just a negotiation that didn't go so well.

Late night threatening phone calls? Sound to me like a pissed bloke venting.

Besides I'm more interested to see if the allegations are true. Blackmail doesn't make them untrue, it's just a sideshow

It's a bit akin to saying Nah it's not stalking when a guy breaches his AVO and calls some girl at night when drunk.

They're both criminal acts.

One guy called the CEO of an organisation to a meeting and threatened to release information if not paid money. Information that wasn't even true, just that would stick

Yeah, sideshow. Let's investigate the flung mud instead. Wow
