Rumour Bombers after Sidebottom

ps. Would rather try to get Dangerfield or Travis Boak anyway.

If Essendon are smart, this is where they should be looking.

We can't afford to go out and "attack" for these type of players, but Essendon can.

Go after the players from struggling clubs who were born and raised in Victoria.

My choice would be Chris Knights, as I can't see future captain Dangerfield leaving Adelaide.

We won't get him. Would love him at EFC but the cost would be massive. Honestly, on potential he is a top 5-6 pick in that draft. So in an equal world you would REASONABLY expect to get a top 5 pick back for Sidebottom. I am an Essendon fan and only Hurley, Watson (at a stretch), Ryder and Gumbleton are worth top 5 picks. None of these will be traded, and thus Collingwood won't be trading Sidebottom.

Sanity ftw :thumbsu:

Steele Sidebottom will be playing for either the Gold Coast or Collingwood in 2011 and beyond.

Collingwood would not even consider trading Steele to a club like Essendon.

If he says he wants to leave, he goes to the Gold Coast.

HARDBALL ALL THE WAY, especially when the silvertails from Essendon are concerned.

Have fun talking about it Bummers supporters, but it ain't going to happen.

Correct weight.

If this scenario of an uncontracted player being targetted by another (non-GC) club actually occurs, and the player wants to leave then it is up to the players current club to make a trade or he will not be getting to that club. The alternative is the GC. Going in to the ND or PSD would only be an option if GC17 didn't want him.

Steele would definitely be tempted if Essendon dangle the carrot I reckon. He was a bombers man, and only been at the club for a year so it's not as if he bleeds black and white just yet.

Ultimately though he's playing in a good side and probably has made a few mates so I can't see him cutting and running. Bit of a worry he hasn't re-signed yet though.

Okay that aside, would you substitute Welsh with any of Monfries, Prismall, McVeigh or Williams?

Why doesn't that minnow club invest some money in recruiting, and keep its filthy salary cap cheating digits off our bright young stars.

ROFL - it's akin to jumping of the back of Miranda Kerr and onto a shetland pony.

LOL.
How about we settle on a pygmy hippo out of respect for Smally.:thumbsu::D

Good luck to ANY player, at all, who has to play under Matthew Knights.
Psycho.
No wonder duds like Welsh put their own name up for trade.

Seen Malthouse in the coaches box lately? Not like he has a buddhist like composure either.

I'd tempt Dangerfield with a $1.5 million carrot and see if he bites. Reality is he is the sort of midfielder we lack especially one that can play forward as well. Reality is I am happy to keep our picks but I'd be looking at interstate sides and their young Victorian midfielders. I just don't see the point leaving Collingwood for Essendon..they are both Victorian clubs.

There are a few I'd target:

1. Boak
2. Dangerfield
3. Vezpremi (only due to the fact we could get a bargain)
4. Knights

I would leave Sidebottom and really I am more chance of winning Lotto than us getting Sidebottom. I am happy he is at Collingwood as I can watch him most weeks.

I don't think Essendon will get him either, and Colingwood would have to agree to a trade, which would certainly not benefit Essendon because draft picks are useless so it would cost players. There is no doubt that Sidebottom seems happy in Melbourne playing league footy for Collingwood as this article suggests, but if he wanted to leave, then he would end up on the Gold Coast, and I'm sure he doesn't want to go there. That said, with restricted drafts in the next three years, all clubs are going to target players from other clubs to improve their list if they can.

Of course he won't leave, but there is no hurry for him to re-sign either. Maybe he feels his form will result in a new contract that he desires, so hopefully he will continue to perform well this season, and improve even more.

Not surprised by the Bombers interest given it's pretty well known they were tossing up between Hurley & Sidey with pick 5 in 2008.

Hurley looks a beauty and so does Sidey.

If any players are going to leave their current clubs for more money it'll be to go to GC17 or GWS. They have far more then any team currently playing.

I'd be shocked if he left.

All I can say is Sidebottom and Smally are off limits.

Would consider McVeigh in a direct trade for our janitor, who is coming out of contract at the end of this year.

Smally foreever!
