Just so show its absurd I have doctored this piece from the Hun. Absurd to be making these conclusions after only one round

Bombers/Hawks/Blues blast back
02 April 2006 Herald Sun

KEVIN Sheedy/Alastair Clarkson/Dennis Pagan may be planning for the future, but Essendon/Hawthorn/Carlton showed it should be a legitimate finals threat this season after a 27/22/22-point win against Sydney/Fremantle/Melbourne at Telstra Dome/Aurora Stadium/Telstra dome last night/this afternoon/tonight.

Leading the way: Matthew Lloyd/Mark Willams/Brendan Fevola is mobbed by teammates after kicking a goal.

Matthew Lloyd/Mark Willams/Brendan Fevola began his captaincy/goalkicking in superb style with eight/eight/sis goals, including six in a stunning first term, as the Bombers/Hawks/Blues surged to a 42-point lead, but it was successive majors from Scott Lucas/Ben Dixon/Jarrad Waite early in the last quarter that killed off a Sydney/Fremantle/Melbourne comeback.

I don't like the talk, but why weren't we a finals chance before Round 1?
Surely the comp is even enough than in any season we have somewhere between 12-16 teams capable of making the 8.

One thing to remember, when that article was written, Carlton and Hawthorn hadn't played yet and Carlton nor Hawthorn beat the reigning premier.
