what.... the... hell.

Tony Jones just made reference to a message from Hird that was supposeldy posted somewhere or spoken, with the words (paraphrasing) "one last message from me...keep supporting the boys like you have been". He then said "read into that what you like".

Anyone know what he was talking about?

Taken out of context. It was the final para in a weekly email to Essendon members, nothing in it.

Dear ......... ,

There’s no doubt, for Essendon members and supporters everywhere, yesterday was a tough day for our club and a disappointing result.

The West Coast Eagles’ ball usage was key to their win. This was in contrast to our game where turnovers and our ability to convert and create some scoreboard pressure was not at the level it has been earlier in the year.

Our skipper led from the front and although he’s had better games, after breaking his collarbone a mere five weeks ago he continues to show the leadership required by our group at this important time of year.

I think it’s fair to say that the players’ preparation has been affected by the speculation and intensity of the press and the expectation of what’s to come. All I will say on the matter to you is that I am looking forward to dealing with the facts. As a coaching and playing group we will be doing everything we can to turn around our form slump over the next three rounds to ensure we go into September primed and ready to play finals football.

As we look to take on North Melbourne this weekend, with both teams coming off a six day break, we will continue in our mission to get back to the type of exciting football that had us competing with the best teams in the league. North Melbourne has had some great form over the last month and are always competitive no matter what the score may be. We will have to ensure our brand of tough inside football with quick transition from defence to attack continues to improve over the last three rounds.

One last message to you as the red and black faithful: continue the great support you have shown all year. Whether it is at our games, open training sessions, emails, social media or other messages of support, it has been a source of inspiration and strength to all of us here at the club. Keep up the great work and continue to back this great club of ours.

James Hird
