Bowling at the "Death"

Not really, most tailenders from all teams can hold on longer these days. Sharma is very lucky today also, Hilfy would be livered at the amount of chances he has had for no result.

A good spinner is the easiest way to clean the tail. They can usually defend well against quicks but struggle to pick spin. Australia still lack a good spinner since Warne.

You need a quick bowler who can reverse or swing it or a quality spinner. Australia at the moment have neither so struggle. Overall however tailenders are getting pretty good at batting as well.

Needless to say it would've been extremely frustrating for the bowlers to see the amount of times Sharma just missed the outside edge.

Some tail end resistance has been quite costly in the last couple of years. The Ashes test at Cardiff and the Boxing Day test in 2008 spring to mind.

Sharma was very lucky. It just goes like that sometimes. And we don't have a spin bowler that can really use a last day deck.

Kat might have been worth a twirl at Sharma as he really tweaks it, but then again Sharma's luck was in. Till he got sawn off.

They use Sharma as a nightwatchman for a reason. He can hang around in a very annoying manner.

Quality spinner helps. I get so sick of watching Johnson bowl to tail enders. A bouncer down leg with no fine leg in place. Why? I know it shakes a tailender but seriously.

Bowling at the death is reserved for ODI/T20's. The batsman have to complete a score to win the game in a set over limit, the bowler doesn't necessarily have to take wickets. Today was not example of inability to bowl at the death, rather an inability to bowl the tail out.

The fact that Hauritz didn't even look like taking a wicket on a fifth day pitch in India is exactly what's wrong with this team.

How Smith isn't playing in this side, I have no idea.
