Brad Crouch vs Ollie Wines

Crouch has looked great the last month. I don't know if I could place Wines above him at this point in time. Wines certainly started better but crouch has improved drastically and getting better and better the more he plays.

I rate Crouch higher than O'Meara. Crouch has the skills and pace required to be effective on the outside, but also has the body, physicality and strength to impact on the inside.

Crouch also had a season in the SANFL, which is so far ahead of the NEAFL it isn't funny. O'Meara would have been better off playing in the WAFL in terms of developing his game against seasoned bodies, though having him over on the GC outweighs all of the pros of him playing back in the WAFL.

Hindsight...

Crouch probably the crow's best today.
Crouch: 28 disposals, 11 contested, 8 clearances, 5 tackles, 2 behinds.
Wines: 11 disposals, 3 contested, 1 clearance, 7 tackles.

Was Wines playing a more defensive role today? A full season for a first year player has to take its tole at some point.
On a completely irrelevant note, Wingard, wow.

Pretty much yes, a lot more body work and clearing spaces etc the last couple weeks, but also it does seem to be down a little in forward running lately.

Yup, he's starting to slow down now - we're really managing his playing time as well.

The three weeks before yesterday he had 66%, 72% and 65% time on ground.

Another preseason will help him a lot.

Wines has had a great year and a super pick up for port. Visually the difference I see is Crouch looks like a 24 year old hardened player while Wines really does look like a 18 year old kid. Wines looks classy with his disposal but Crouchs attack on the ball and man is awesome to watch.

I reckon these 2 will have some epic battles over the next decade or so. Both quality kids with slightly different skill sets. Rate Ollies attack on the ball every bit as highly as Crouchies.

Will be interesting how each fits into their respective teams midfield. I see Crouch being a bigger part of the crows midfield compared to Wines in Ports, well over the short term anyway. As a result I reckon Port will manage Ollies development more conservatively where as the crows probably need Crouch to be a bigger role player at this stage.

In 5 years time though, both will be beasts.

Completely agree , Wines , Crouch and O'Meara could be the best 3 players in the AFL in the next 4-5 years

I actually think that Port need Wines to step up for their midfield more than the crows do.

So you think Crouch will get to the level of an Ablett/Pendlebury type player ?

Possibly not, but neither will 99.9% of players get to Ablett's level and only a handful will get to Pendlebury levels. That said, Crouch's disposal effectiveness, accuracy and his decision making have all improved massively since your original post. He will be right near the top echelon.

He will be AA multiple times by the end of his career. Sando said that in his opinion Crouch will win a brownlow before Dangerfield. But then again you proberbly dont rate Danger either.

sando also said a couple of your average players like hartigan were as good as first round picks when someone noted you missing the early stage of the draft.

his opinion of adelaide players is about as valuable as my knowledge on quantum mechanics.

you would be wise to never quote him again to support your point. does more harm then good.

At the moment Ollie is a bit behind Crouch, but not far. He is better inside than Crouch but does not do much on the outside. I liked how he comfortably beat Crouch in that crucial contest they had on the wing in the final qtr of the Showdown, but as yet he does not spread effectively

Ollie needs another pre-season (Crouch has already had 2) and by the end of the next year a more accurate comparison will be possible.

not sure if serious...

ollie's spread is elite for his age bracket. you dont average 19 possies in your first year by stumbling around.

ollies in close body work at the stoppages and work and spread are very much both in the elite for his age and should continue as he grows.

where he isnt up to elite grades is his disposal , while not poor is not elite either. doesnt burst away nor have great speed but has enough to execute as he needs to. not super sharp hands in close but rides contact very well and is smart about how and when to release the ball.

should continue on to be a top grade midfielder without ever being the type that makes the highlight reels nor is really elite but a champion of his club that makes his team better.

Going to be interesting tracking both these players careers.

Great up and coming midfielders and you feel if they can improve on this season and there is consistency, both will be champions of the game.

That said, i'll take crouch because i am biased.
