I'm happy...I thought we would end up with 28 for Ebert at the most.

This, the guy the draft now and develop in a couple years will have about the same amount of impact as Ebert was having now anyway, if Ebert really was a required player at the club then he wouldn't have gotten dropped for the final two games of the year, best of luck to him and hope for Port's sake he makes an immediate impact

we can't be too hard on him given the family connection. any one of us would want to go home if put in the same situation.quote]

Dont think i would. Would love to have been given the opportunity to live in a different capital city when I was younger, have my moving costs paid for, get paid well for something I love doing, play for a succesful team etc

Mummys boy IMO

You just made that up, purely your opinion. There is a good chance we'll get a good player with it.

Hill may not have what it takes mentally to make the most of his skill, but there are a shit load of people who think Ebert is a complete crab......I'm happy with it as I don't like Eberts momentum stopping errors.

Gee you are so perceptive. It is true that nobody else made that up for me, nor is it a fact. So yes, you are totally correct, it really is my opinion - congratulations ! And I will happily stand by it.

Of course there are heaps of Eagles supporters only too happy to see Ebert go, just as there are heaps of Bulldog supporters happy to see Hill go. I'm not sure that that little revelation proves anything much either . . .

Wouldn't be too harsh on the kid - wasn't in the best side come finals, did not like the sound of wce plans for him going forward, strong family ties to another club. Probably an easy decision for him and Rohde just said he insisted wce were fairly compensated.

We did well - it is 2011 not 2015 or 2008 with compromised drafts. That is the context.

As for ebert, no guts no glory.

I can sit and watch his ex mates soar like an eagle

Best of luck to skeletor for the rest of his career at port. Pissed how it went down but you win some, you lose some and the whole experience has really made me hate port supporters. (i hated the club to begin with but now despise their supporters)

Burgoyne did the same to us as did Nick Stevens and Josh Carr.

That is just the way these things work.

Yeah it is. Doesn't make me give him any leniency though. It is the way things work and it will change my opinion of him. Thought he was a good kid before. Not anymore!

As I am sure you guys (and then Freo), did with Josh Carr, even though you got a ****load more for Carr!

We aren't all that bad man :(

well i hope they work out for you like josh carr and nick stevens did

Stevens didn't work out too well for them, he went into the PSD and they got nothing!

Got some decent picks for Carr if I recall correctly.

EDIT: Which they used on Adam Thomson, Aaron Shattock and James Ezard. Hmm

to put it simply. we win if pick 28 turns out to get a good player and makes the 22... just like we came out on top with the mega trade with carlton... NOTTE!

I agree

Heaps of trades end up like this -players get offered a contract and then try to get to that one club. It's psuedo-free agency, except the club they are leaving at least get some compensation.

Which is what happens in most normal FA based league (ie in the NFL if you lose an UFA you get a compensation pick at the end of a round based on the salary said FA is offered)

Yeah, true. The NFL model has heaps of issues though

Not happy.
Will never get a player as good as Ebert with pick 28.
Ebert will be a great player for Port.
Will most probably captain them one day.

For a complex system it's pretty alright. Salary cap + draft

Only real issue is player holdouts IMO.
Don't like midseason transfers or the fact that a "contract" means the franchise effectively has rights to you, rather than having a guarantee of tenure.

Midseason trades make things more interesting afaic.

The contract thing goes both ways, and comes back to player holdouts. Though Franchise tags et al can only be applied once.

Either way, contracts are a more individual process with hundreds more behind the scene issues than AFL contracts.

I'm still from he school that I'd like to see a fair number of players being one club players. All for movement, but not players playing for 3, 4 or 5 clubs.

NBA is the worst for this (basketball in general)

Here he is , the last I could find of Bradley at WCE and all he was good for at times ........ modelling tee shirts on the WCE website .

Edit - I feel bad now ,... good luck Brad !

I think 28 is pretty handy. It gives us the opportunity to pick up a KPD and the best available mid, rather than one or the other.

I do want Jordan Lockyer at 28. He's very underrated on these boards and looks like a very attacking full back with great hands, like Lake. Can play at both ends also.

With 23 we could hope for a slider, someone like Grigg or Crozier IMO.
