The level of stupidity and disrespect in this thread is astounding.

A 6 time All Australian, 3 time B&F, over 500 goals... How about showing some flipping respect to a great of the game.

He was well within his rights to go around this year (4th in our B&F last year) Had we have given him the ass last year we would of been kicked from pillar to post for disrespecting a club legend.

Unfortunately age and injury catches up with all players and Johnno is no different. Pound for pound one of the strongest overhead makrking players this game has seen with a tank that could go all day. He sacrificed his body weekly when we had no key forward and continually beat stronger more fancied defenders.

I tip my hat to you Brad. A true Bulldog Legend!!

This! :thumbsu:

As I said earlier in this thread I have always admired Brad Johnson but he does not instantly deserve everybody's respect Mate?

Jason Akermanis was a 4 time all Australian, brownlow medallist, triple premiership player, 320 odd games? 420 odd goals, club b&f ect.. Do you respect him?

It's pretty obvious that his body didn't allow him to play to his potential this year ..but hindsights a wonderful thing .

He has been an exceptional player for the Doggies and will be rated as one of their all time greats .

His penchant for playing for free kicks early in his career and the Aker saga has impacted on how people now regard him ...which is a shame ..because he was a great player .

Should not play this week though.

mate your club will be full of selfish players who've turned their backs on their club for $$$ by the end of the year. take your tripe to bay 13.

So why are you playing an injured play who is not fit? Don't you want to win this weekend? You may not get this close to a premiership for another 10 year or so as your team is about to go into a big rebuilding phase as your window is now or never.

Why do you only like postive comments? The leading teams actually had your beloved leader out the front and put it to him that he was indeed a selfish player. Also in the Peter Rhode days, Johnson and others were accused of only kicking the ball to their friends & ignoring excellent leads from players would were not in his clique.

Easy to say he should have retired last season after what has happened this year. His form last season was good enough to go around again, just that when you get to the age he is now, injuries are much harder to recover from and also play with.

This....The same people saying he shouldn't have played this year would be the same ones that said Scotty West should be allowed to play on when he (rightly) was forced to retire. Injuries caught up to him in the end but is and AFL champion whose record stands up to almost anyones, not just a club great.

Great career :thumbsu:

No problem with him playing on in 2010, much like I had no issue with Edwards and McLeod going on this year, he has earned the right to be trusted by the Coach, match committee and the Board due to the outstanding commitment to get up for that many games of football at this level.

However, he should now retire immediately and make himself unavailable this week. if he were to be honest with himself he'd know he can't perform to the standard that is required for a H&A game currently, let alone a final.

If he plays this week against the Swans its all about ego and now what's best for the club, I would never have thought someone like him would consider himself to be bigger than the Club so he should do the right thing.

I'm sure Andrew McLeod could have wandered around of half back and half go at contests in round 22 and get chaired off, I'm thankful he didn't.

Why does he deserve to be disrespected? If he thinks he is right to play and does everything he can to get fit, then he has done his job. It's then the match commitees call to drop him, that's their job

Of course I respect Aker the footballer, who doesn't?

The last of the old brigade that carried us for so many years. Grant, West, Darcy, Johnson, Smith, Libba - of those guys he was arguably the best of the bunch.
A great career with many moments of absolute brilliance that all Bulldogs fans will remember. Just a pity that he doesn't have the premiership cup that he deserves. Came close twice but wasn't to be.
Luv ya Johnno! have a great life and good luck

about time! IMO brad is the one that done all he could to get Akermanis out of the club so karma has come back to bite him. He was a great player but played on for a season too long....

You are a dead set moron!! Once again a perfect display of why Aker says half the stuff he does because idiots like you believe every word!!

Johnno you have been an absolute champion for the club!!! You will be greatly missed!! GO THE SMILING ASSASSIN!!

Been a very good player for Western Bulldogs.

Went a year too long but that is understandable given the club rated themselves a premiership chance.

Hope he can go out on a good note in whatever is his last game.

As a footballer yes, as a person definitely not!! Aker will never be as loved and respected as much as someone like Johnno is!!! You cannot compare the two...

great career and it's a shame it probably won't end with a falg. i am just waitting for aker to say it's about time, he should have retired last year. well aker should have as well

Interesting to read all these arm chair coaches saying one year too long. He finished fourth in our B&F '09. It wasn't form that caused his demise it was the injuries he suffered early in the year (like the golf cart incident).

When he strung some games together he found form and was leading our goal assists. His body just couldn't recover from the injuries sustained this year. The only argument against is the Club could've retired him earlier (like Scott West) before the Collingwood game.

The likes of Akermanis played nine games of nothing injury free.

There is a difference between legitimite criticism & trolling.

That's completely right. It's also about context - start up a thread about Brad's career by all means.

Great career and player, but still selfish to play this weekend.

Not too sure I buy this.

If he is on the list still then he should be within his rights to put himself up for selection. The club needed to make the call. He clearly lacks class but he's not to blame because I think most AFL players would be selfish in this way. Shane O'Bree hasn't done it, our club was simply strong enough to drop him.

The Dogs have proven themselves a weak club with a ballsless coach. They should have dropped him weeks ago or put the hand on the shoulder and said "retire this week Johnno because you will be omitted on the weekend and we don't want to humiliate you."

Weak club, weak coach, no leadership and a non-contributing captain. Straight sets.
