He clearly ran off the mark when having that final shot.. should of been called play on and that would of been game over.

Imagine if the ump called that though. The doggie supporters would of gone feral. They were already bad enough where we were sitting.

(that was there)..... I agreed, but that didn't cost the game.

I concur.

Does anyone think that Johnson came off his line when coming in to kick this point? How much latitude is allowable?

Of course he did. I've been saying this since the first time i saw it on tv. Finally someone agrees with me.

The umpire couldn't ping him for that though. There are certain players that run off their line more than that every time they kick the ball. Buddy Franklin would never again in his career have a set shot without being called to play on.

Grey area. I think the umps were in a bit of confusion in those last few seconds and had to just let the game decide itself.

I don't think anyone here begrudged the Cats the game - personally, I'm just saying that it could have gone either way. Judging by the look on the Geelong supporters, they were just happy it went their way - I have no problem with that.

Disappointing for Johnno and Bulldogs. Geelong are a very good team.

I don't understand the mentality of some the responses here. It's making me want to come on here less and less.

There are a lot of shit people in this world mate, a large portion seem to find their way onto this website.

I'm not 100% sure on the technical rules, but the mic in that video picked up the whistle being blown some time after johnson took the mark, so doesn't that mean he must take a set shot and cannot play on?

Amazing that people have the temerity to criticise Johnson for missing a tough shot at goal, yet we see players miss far easier shots every week and are not subject to the same criticism.

So true, if Johnson had have kicked it could you blame Ablett for missing one only a little earlier? its a ridiculous situation.

That video confirmed my thoughts on the night.
What on earth was Harley doing?
I couldn't believe that he of all people would just fall over under pressure.

But he did.

Reminded me of the sydney semi in 05

A shame Aka didnt get paid the free in front just before this, he may not have missed.

Johnos was a hard shot to get.
A shame the BF people bag the crap out of a player for this, yet dont ever question or abuse any other player in every game that misses set shots etc.
A double standard by half around here.

Goalkicking in general is very poor in the AFL. Players lining up from 30-50 out with little angle should be kicking them 9/10 or more, but you see so many get missed.

And the commentators as well seem to have accepted it as part of the game, most of the time they don't even mention it when a player misses from that distance.

I agree. Goals win games. Its sure frustrating when they line up and miss yet again. So many games lost through bad kicking skills.

Since Justin Longmuir kicked a goal after the siren to win a game in 2005, every player since has blown their chance.

Motlop 2006
Baker 2006
Riewoldt 2008
Bock 2008
Brad Johnson 2008 and 2009

Yet in the same period of time, prior to Longmuir's kick, every single player kicked the goal -

Dixon 2001
Hall 2001
Cresswell 2002
Farmer 2002
Riccardi 2002
Poulton 2002
Tarrant 2003
Hall 2005

Is there a curse?

Maybe the Footaballs have not been "kicked" in enough yet. ;)

Hall got it at the Gabba in 2007(?). First time the Swans were in front was after the siren.

He choked. Dogs should have won. They did not.

If Richo did that this thread would be 50 pages and most of it would be laughter.

Johnson can keep his AA's and his few B&F's at the kennell - it'll all be for nought and champions kick those.

Harsh, but fair.... he blew it
