its doesnt sit well with me that clubs are treating their club legends this way. Part of the business these days I guess.

I'd like to see the AFL alter the list management rules to accommodate better treatment of club champions in the ruthless environment that is modern footy. Sewell should be playing out his days in a Hawks jumper. It's the romance of the game at stake.

Heard he's going to the Swans on a 8 year deal, Hawks want a second rounder and Essendon wants a top 5 pick, not because they have anything to do with it, just because they heard he barracked for them as a kid :D

Not worth much at all.

Smells abit like Sydney a few years back trying to offload Jude Bolton and there were no takers.

If they are prepared to give him up for a 3rd rounder, a deal will probably get done but I can't see clubs jumping out of their skins to offer up any first or second rounders for Sewell.

Maybe Hawks are looking to get him off their books too salary cap wise which is odd considering Buddy is off.

Don't laugh...wouldn't be surprised to see Sewell and Strats head over to you guys and for Darling to come back to us!

Hawthorn are as likely to trade Stratton as Collingwood are to trade Ben Reid.

First sentance -

Hawthorn is open to offers for premiership midfielder Brad Sewell, with the club exploring ways to create additional salary cap space and generate opportunities for its young onballers.

Salary will be playing a part it seems....perhaps they are planning to throw some cash at someone?

Yes, I saw this line about creating salary cap space in the HUN also. I laughed.

Sewell is being squeezed out because he's the least dynamic of the current aging midfield group.

Why on earth would Melbourne want Cross or Sewell?

Both are old, slow and can't kick. You would think they would've learned their lesson recruiting Byrnes, Rodan etc.

Melbourne need quality ball users. Sewell and Cross are battlers, but you've got Jones who is better than both and in a similar mould.

The chances of Melbourne trading a second round pick to Hawthorn for Sewell should be less than zero.

Because there's 44 spots on each list and with the expansion clubs taking the best of the young kids over the last few years that means a lot of clubs with poor lists have to decide between some pretty average options for the last few spots.

We also average about 100 less disposals than most clubs and a bunch less inside 50's. So to get 1 (be it Sewell or Cross) of the hardest working on and off the field midfielders in the league in might not be the worst idea.

Byrnes was a mistake, he's passed his best and doesn't offer a heap besides a seasoned veteran and a bit of personality. The etc. you mention is Pederson, Sellar and Gillies. We tried to find a couple of recycled depth talls and again it was a waste of spots on the list. Rodan though was probably not a mistake. He was still close to best 22 and provided great leadership to Viney and others. He was never recruited to for on field things.

I agree we shouldn't give up a second round pick for Sewell. It should be Cross for free or Sewell for a late pick but not both. Maybe neither but that would depend on what we can get in the trade period. If we get 2 or more ready to go midfielders then I'd say no to Cross or Sewell. If we can't then I'd take a veteran.

Taking kid after kid without the advantages or priority picks and in these days of expanded drafts due to 2 extra teams and compensation picks will make it very hard to close the gap the rest of the comp has on us.

It's pretty simple for Hawthorn. If Sewell stays, Hallahan goes. I believe quite a few clubs have enquired about the JJ Liston trophy winner.

As they should. Hallahan is a much better prospect for any team with an early third round pick. Sewell is near the end. Think Melbourne would be the only team desperate enough to bite. Smart thinking by the Hawks.

No a family friend.
And the rumour is false btw he just got back to me

Which part of the rumour is false according to Brad?

That Hawthorn have put him on the table?
That he's interested in a move?

Both parts of the rumour.

And you're sure he's not just telling you what he thinks you want to hear?

Because honestly, he needs to get his head around where he might be in 2014.

What is you take Echols? Do you think that Sewell will be tempted to move considering he's Likely to play more footy at Box Hill than Hawthorn next year? Or does see out his contract with us which I believe is 2 more years rather than the 1 reported in the papers.
And what do you see us getting for him? A 3rd rounder is pretty useless to us do we just aim for a pick upgrade.

You've already lost Bailey, Franklin and Guerra. Savage (emerg) will go. How many from the grand final squad do you want to see out?

I know you'll get Longer in and have some real talents who are due a shot but I would like to remind Hawthorn of the last time they won a flag what happened the next year.

Now some super trading got the list right back to the top but maybe next time teams aren't so keen to let Burgoyne, Hale, Gunston, Gibson and Lake (also knows as your best 5 players of the finals series arguably or at least 5 of the best 8 or so) go to Hawthorn.

On the other hand you could argue the Longer trade and a Sewell trade is speeding up that same mini rebuild philosophy but I'm just putting a counter argument out there.

I think Sewell is an extremely proud and intelligent man.

I doubt he wants to leave Hawthorn, but I'm not entirely sure he will a great deal of say in it.

What we would receive is anyone's guess at this point, as he is undoubtedly not the same player he was 2 seasons ago, but it's also worth remembering that this is not a 'super draft'.

I think Sewell is about shot. Would have very little trade value. Maybe Melb would offer a 3rd rounder for him because he's a great bloke and would be a positive influence. Maybe.
that's a massive call, I don't agree at all that his shot. he's a huge game performer and still proved to be ever so valuable this final series.
