I think Sewell is an extremely proud and intelligent man.

I doubt he wants to leave Hawthorn, but I'm not entirely sure he will a great deal of say in it.

What we would receive is anyone's guess at this point, as he is undoubtedly not the same player he was 2 seasons ago, but it's also worth remembering that this is not a 'super draft'.
Can you just elaborate when you say he won't have a great deal of say in it, because as he's contracted he ultimately has final say, just as Ryan Ferguson did all those years ago.

You've already lost Bailey, Franklin and Guerra. Savage (emerg) will go. How many from the grand final squad do you want to see out?

I know you'll get Longer in and have some real talents who are due a shot but I would like to remind Hawthorn of the last time they won a flag what happened the next year.

Now some super trading got the list right back to the top but maybe next time teams aren't so keen to let Burgoyne, Hale, Gunston, Gibson and Lake (also knows as your best 5 players of the finals series arguably or at least 5 of the best 8 or so) go to Hawthorn.

On the other hand you could argue the Longer trade and a Sewell trade is speeding up that same mini rebuild philosophy but I'm just putting a counter argument out there.
How many do I want to see go? None.
How many should, for list management purposes? Anywhere between 3-5 players, I'd have thought.

Bailey will be replaced by Longer.

Guerra's understudy almost superseded him this year. Duryea.
Savage I do not rate as highly as some other Hawk supporters, but I am not entirely sure he will go, regardless.

We will have Suckling and Schoenmakers pressuring the remaining members of the GF side. Plus we have a VFL side with numerous kids who are dead keen for an opportunity at AFL level.

In 2009 we had numerous players, from the back half in particular, miss the start of the year due to surgeries and short preseasons. Tom Murphy was playing on blokes like Barry Hall. Mitch Thorp was played in the ruck. We learnt a lot from how we entered that year.

He could most definitely dig the heels in, but if Clarko tells him he'll be sitting at Box Hill each week and others will be given opportunities ahead of him, then I think the decision whether to stay or go might be a bit clearer for him.

Why would the hawks have salary cap issues if buddy's gone?

Echols is right there isn't any salary cap issue. It is more an issue of having Sewell playing many games at Box Hill with a $400,000 contract. Also, he has a 1 year contract guaranteed which the Hawks could partially pay if he moved to another club. The 2nd year is a potential contract triggered by "KPI's" achieved in 2014. One of these is the no. of games played at Hawthorn. It is very likely he will not meet this KPI at the very least.

We have got Shoenmakers and Suckling to come back next year, and Anderson, Hallahan and Duryea who all deserve more senior footy next year.

whitecross could come back for the later paret of the season too - i think our list is in tip top shapre regardless of what we do - this is 3 weeks of "find some icing" for hawthorn

would love chappy even if we can just sit him in the stands so he cant beat us!

Can I just know why - as to what makes so many hawthorn supporters on BF make it such a big thing that Schoenmakers is back next year? The only times I have clapped shoenmakers is when he's up forward, he reads the play and could make an impact. Down back....well we all remember 2011 PF, along with other not so fond memories.

Because before he did his knee this year, he was in the best form of his career.

Players always grow in value when they are injured. (By there supporters) Also when they are requesting a trade. They go down in value when they have left the club via free agency etc. See Thomas and Scully.

I didn't realise that hawker39. I just assumed it was a 3 year contract that he signed last year as has been discussed on the hawks board. I had no idea that it was a 2 year contract with a trigger clause for another year.

This.

Smart move by the Hawks, look every Hawk supporters love Sewelly and always will but you can't be paying 400k to someone not 100% in your best 22 going forward.

Not that it was hard he just had to only concede 4 goals a game not 5.

In all seriousness though his development had been steadily improving for some time and he looked like having a good season. He'll be good to add back into the line up, but with Gibson, Stratton and Lake playing so well you seemed to cover him pretty well!

You obviously missed the start of the season before he did his knee

Not sure how this will play out.

Will have to wait till Sooz reports back after the next sleepover.

I only just realised I was conversing with Sooz. Oh boy wowee!
