5 First rounders.

Actually no. I'ld rather keep Sewell. His worth would only be to GWS/Melbourne, and they wouldnt throw something of value like a top 10 pick for someone turning 30.

Unless he wants to leave i don't really want him gone, Must be trying hard to shoe-horn Hallihan into the team next season

Maybe there's more too it - was dumped in round 18 or whatever for under performing.

Maybe it's a mutual thing. Maybe hawks want something while he's got currency rather than losing hodge Sewell Mitchell and Burgoyne all at the same time in a couple of seasons.

Perfect for for Melbourne / GWS

What's with the outrage? We've already seen numerous premiership players offloaded this trading period and I haven't heard a whimper.

Anyway, I think if you read between the lines this is Hawthorn saying we need to replenish the midfield and can't guarantee you a place in it. I reckon Sewell will stay and back himself.

He will play more at BH than Hawthorn next year and he knows that ....... we want game time into the likes of Hallahan , Langford and who ever we may pick up .
3 clubs approached us during the finals about Sewell ...... 2 nd rdr a lock .

I think Sewell is about shot. Would have very little trade value. Maybe Melb would offer a 3rd rounder for him because he's a great bloke and would be a positive influence. Maybe.

it's actually a smart move by the club and one that sewelly would of approved of also, if a deal can't be done he's obviously going to stay which is his first preference but he may be playing in box hill with younger guys coming through in his spot who need opportunity, don't underestimate the worth of experience and professionalism he would bring to a club and he still averaged 21 disposals this year, still has the abiiity to win a heap of the ball if played as midfielder rather then used as a run with like he did a couple times this year, i doubt the club would offload him for a pick in the late 30's a second rounder would probably get it done

It's interesting...surely the Hawks wouldn't trade him to any of their competitors for the top 4 next year and I'm not sure he has enough legs left in him to be worth much to the other clubs.

Terrible treatment of a two-time premiership player if true, the guy gives his all for the jumper every game.

If they are dishing him off, I hope a fellow top 4 side picks him up.

Similar to Chapman/Pods at Geelong, its doesnt sit well with me that clubs are treating their club legends this way. Part of the business these days I guess.

Except he's also contracted.

Really strange one by the Hawks. He's a favorite son, doesn't want to leave, and would have minimal trade value. Why not just let him play out his contract and retire a Hawk? He still has some value in big games and could be very handy if injuries hit.

How can the salary cap situation be that bad with Buddy leaving?

Or are the Hawks clearing the decks to do the unthinkable - match Sydney's offer?
