As long as you guys don’t play him on the gorilla fwds like hawkins, mitch lewis and larkey he’ll do well for you guys.
Same feedback we're getting for Esava. The same issue we already have with Aliir. We already have about 5 others capable of playing on the 3rd tall. Looks like our list management team have done a cracking job of fixing our biggest list hole

We should be good if we play a team who have 3 third string KPFs.

The difference is we have 3 of them now.

It shouldn't be Esava v Hawkins. It should be Esava v Hawkins with BZT or Aliir coming over the top.

Of course, Exhibit B is Aliir, Zerk-Thatcher and Ratugolea. Exhibit A is 2017 Richmond (Rance et al).

Richmond's defence went at a ratio of losing one contest in every 5. In their teams, our new defence went at a clip of losing one contest every 3, but I'm expecting that to fall to 1 in every 4.

If you are playing people to their strengths all the needing a lock down defender talk could be a furphy, with Aliir & Esava instructed to mark everything and attack. I'd probably roll with it myself.

Dixon would regularly feast on zerk even on one leg. There is all the proof you need to not use him on the big guys.

Finally, total Hinkleyball on the horizon!

Rance actually handled being on the number one forward target and managed to play an intercept role as well. None of our defenders show the ability to play this role anywhere near this standard.

The history of Janus expectation vs reality is not in our favour here.

I don't need them to play at a multiple All Australian standard like Rance.

I just need them to do the job better than a backline of Aliir, McKenzie and Jonas.

Collingwood 2023:

Port Adelaide 2023:

219 points over 23 games was the eventual difference between Collingwood and Port Adelaide. 9.5 points per game.

Can Ratugolea, Zerk-Thatcher and Soldo combine with the remaining 2023 team to prevent two goals a game in 2024? That's the question that people need to ask. I believe that they can quite easily.

You mean combine to prevent two goals more per game.

Shift Burton out of the tall defender group. Put Zerk-Thatcher there.

Ryan Burton when he played half back against Brisbane and didn't have to fill in for an absolutely cooked Jonas:

24 disposals, 7 marks, 4 inside 50s, 5 rebound 50s, 9 intercepts

Burton is an adequate to decent tall defender. He's an absolutely elite half-back.
I don't see a need 3 genuine tall defenders each week though. You're pushing out one of the other names I mentioned for BZT meaning that Burton stat line is just replacing another half back.

Take the two grand finalist teams (i.e. the teams to beat), who of them are you putting Zerk Thatcher on? Jamie Elliot? Cam Rayner?

Confirming our backline:

Our tall defenders

Aliir: intercept defender, poor 1:1

Esava: intercept defender, poor 1:1

BZT: not an intercept defender, cannot defend first/second option talls, might be able to take third talls

McKenzie: decent 1:1, height of a midfielder
