Despite all the talk, frankly I don't think hes best 22. With respect to Bombers fans they're not used to a quality defence and he's not coming from a team known for a good system.

Sure he won't have to play on the number 1 forward but then what are we getting him for?

We have as defenders Ratugolea, Aliir, Burton (3x ~ talls), Williams, Houston, Farrell (3x ~ smalls) + Jones & Bergman. Then we have depth in Burgoyne, McKenzie, Clurey.

So how and why would we play Zerk Thatcher?

Shift Burton out of the tall defender group. Put Zerk-Thatcher there.

Ryan Burton when he played half back against Brisbane and didn't have to fill in for an absolutely cooked Jonas:

24 disposals, 7 marks, 4 inside 50s, 5 rebound 50s, 9 intercepts

Burton is an adequate to decent tall defender. He's an absolutely elite half-back.
 
Can't wait for BZT to take his mediocre game to another level with the help of our defensive line coach checks notes TBC.

He did ok on the big guys when the midfield did its job defensively. But if you’re playing in front of your man and the opposition has time on the ball you get torched. He was in our bests regularly back end of last year.

I think he’s at least as good as Esava who plays in a great system - Sam Weideman kicked 5 on Esava when we played them earlier in the year.
 
Despite the horrid stats against him, there were games we won where he looked like a genuinely good player - his hustle and closing speed are quite impressive and he has the length to spoil the ball.

However, he was miscast as a #1 defender at Essendon, he's built like a twig and got absolutely destroyed by any big-bodied forward he was asked to defend. He should be much better for you guys given Alir Alir's presence in your backline.
 
I am glad that we now have a player that when made into an initialism sounds like a big fat error buzzer from the price is right.
