If we got a first round compensation pick to help us pick up a quality key defender or be part of a package for someone like Rowell I’d be ok with letting soon-to-be 29 year old Maynard go to North unmatched. Plus we seem to have a surplus of half back flankers that could slot in to his position. Maybe not of the quality, versatility and hardness of Bruzzy but good enough imo.
It won't be a particularly value pick if we have a decent year.

Really hoping it's the last pick of R1

At the risk of sounding like a broken record SR, first-rounders have cache.
We both know that, hypothetically, pick 18 in the first round and pick 19 in the second round are right beside each other, but 18 has commensurably more currency when trading. Does that make sense? No, but when we offer our "first" to another club (+ whatever else), that's what they hear, "first rounder"

I'm not going to mention Bruz bc I want him to stay more than anything and think he will.

But - lets say another player leaves and presents us with R1 compo - I'd be trading it out lickety-split for Rowell or another player (or using it to move up or draft a player so we can satisfy that 4-year rule allowing us to dip into 2026 etc)

I don't know if I do know that?

End of R1 will probably be closer to Pick 30 next year by the looks of it.

Isn't the first pick of draft night 2 meant to hold special value?
that appears to be true, too

It's a pick that seems to soar in value immediately after the completion of round 1 - teams don't seem to chase it as hard during the trade / draft period

He gone. Good luck to him though that’s a damn good offer and at least one was always going to get tipped out. Enjoy the ride with him this year and at least the draft doves get a 1st Rd pick to froth over if we don’t trade a guy in 🤷‍♂️
Unless I’m mistaken If we keep it it will just get eaten up by McGuane bid (if he progresses as expected)

Big if (in terms of his progression), but yes unfortunately the draft gurus would miss out there. There is also the what if of bringing in Allen as a FA and how that would nullify the compensation which I didn’t consider earlier. I think we just make it simpler and he stays. Surely everyone’s happy with that?

If the offer is truely 6 years he won’t stay IMO. Definition of an offer you can’t refuse and truly insane from north

I think we’ve heard this story before in recent years,.Collingwood player X,offered squillions of dollars to move to another club. Many here say that said player would be mad not to take the money and leave the club because they have to think of their future and their families etc.And yet in the end nothing comes of it and the player remains at Collingwood.I think the same will probably happen in Maynard’s case.I’m sure the club can work out a deal that’s beneficial to both parties,

Bruz seems like one of the most loyal blokes you’d ever meet. If anyone passes on the cash to stay with their mates, at the club that drafted them, and where they won a flag, it would be Bruz.

I used to have a source within the club but sadly he's long gone.
Clubs run very lean these days, and all the people hanging on and doing nothing are gone.
Best information comes from the players who attend coterie groups.
