Why shouldn't he be given another chance in society.

The purpose of a prison sentence "should be" rehabilitation. Garlett desereves the opportunity to show he has learned his lesson.

If we are not to give him a chance, why is Freo recruit Shane Yarran allowed to play?

Absolutely, an opportunity he should pursue once he's completed his sentence. Which is why your comparison to Yarran, who served his time and has shown the signs of his rehabilitation, is really silly.

Since Andrew Krakouer played for Collingwood after going to jail for beating the shit out of someone, anything's possible.

Hey, hey, hey .......... back up there !!!.

He gave his all winning a premiership for the Black Ducks, then went to Collingwood.

I think he saw going to Collingwood as a bit of a let down after playing with Tallan Ames ..........

Troubled superstar Dayle Garlett is appealing his prison sentence, saying that he wants to revive his career. Garlett is currently serving 4 years and 8 months behind bars for a litany of offences, the worst including burglary, car theft and dangerous driving. His lawyer claims the sentence is excessive and that it is in the interest of rehabiliitaion for Dayle to start playing again.

Personally I think it would be a farce if Garlett was allowed to play and get bail so soon. It's not as though his offence was a once off, he committed multiple offences knowing full well what he was doing. He deserves to be behind bars for the sake of society.

What do you think?

I always like to see people turn their lives around and love to see people given every opportunity to do so. that said, most of them let themselves down again and again.

Hard to see a club taking a chance on him when others whose indiscretions / issues have been comparatively minor who weren't afforded another look-in.

How likely would even a reduction in his sentence be? Would have thought fairly remote, but don't know the ins and outs.

Pretty good I would have thought. I understand our prisons are full and WA has early release programs for indigenous inmates.
