Re: Brendan Fevola

The road to redemption starts here .. his 3rd was outstanding and took the pressure off JB, allowing him to completely destroy Lake in the last. I was a little unsure how all this would pan out but with strong characters like Voss and Brown around, Fev has been given a real lifeline. Take it.

Caroline Wilson on 3AW moments ago: Fevola ia saying he is an addict because his coaches/management are telling him to say he is an addict although I think Fevola doesn't think he is addict even though he is saying he is an addict. I usually don't mind Caro, but WTF Caro.

Was wondering that myself.
Personally, I think it was great that Fev was able to beat the press to the headlines. Turning a media frenzy into a human interest story. Could that be her problem?

I dont think he really beat the press to the headline. Hutchy and Barrett were all over it. They couldn't let the Lions handle it in their own way, they had to be heroes.

Yeah, seconded. She was saying something similar on Offsiders this morning and it's just comes across as something incoherent aimed at "proving" Fevola did something wrong somehow.

Re: Brendan Fevola

I get the feeling Caro thinks Fevola is a misogynist and really doesn't like him. She has been very anti-Fev in all her comments about him.

It is most definately personal - and I guess that's OK just as long as that bias is stated. The problem for journos who claim high moral ground is that they still have to chase headlines and there's no bigger headline ( ie translates to $$$ ) than Fev right now. But Plugger eventually got away from it all so maybe it can happen to Fev. Imagine if JB had played for a Vic club ...

Re: Brendan Fevola

Yeah, she is one of the very few media commentators left who has refused to concede that Lara Bingle has played a considerable role in her own implosion.
That's clear from the comment that Fev might finally come clean on the Bingle episode in that article, which was supposedly talking about his gambling habits.

Fevola - the Shane Warne of football

Brendan Fevola is fast becoming the Shane Warne of the AFL.That is not to say the boom Brisbane recruit and former Carlton star is in the same league as a player in the AFL as Warne was in international cricket.
But where Fevola is so much like the former superstar leg spinner is that no matter what off-field crisis he gets himself into, he keeps producing the goods on the field.

But the Coleman medallist’s celebrations were cut short when the goal umpire ruled the kick was touched by a Bulldogs defender.

It was a pretty good metaphor for the former Carlton forward’s season to date.

When things have seemed to have turned in his favour, something pops up to derail his cause.

Caroline Wilson

But Fevola confessing that he is a gambling addict bore similarities to Tiger Woods confessing he was a sex addict. In both cases, you have to ask whether personal anarchy and narcissism is an addiction or simply a character flaw. Which 12-step program should Fev subscribe to? Gamblers' Anonymous? Alcoholics Anonymous? Attention Seekers Anonymous?

This is not to trivialise the clearly insidious and traumatic social disease that is gambling. You can only imagine what life must have been like in recent years for Fevola's family and, clearly, it is a good thing he no longer seems in denial. Perhaps he might one day admit he did the wrong thing by Lara Bingle as well. Not to mention the nameless other victims of his failure to pay his dues, both literally and figuratively.

Best is yet to come from Fevola: Brown

"Talking to him during the week there was relief for him going public. It has actually freed him up for the first time in a long time," Brown said. The Lions skipper hinted Fevola would reach even greater heights now that he had gone public about his problem.
"It is a difficult thing when you have something weighing heavily on your mind and have to hide it from everyone," said Brown, who was also inspirational with two goals.
"He found a sense of freedom this week and he has been able to perform even better."

Re: Brendan Fevola

What I loved about Fev's game this week was that he showed real anguish in the first half when things weren't clicking for him, and yet he didn't drop his head, didn't chuck a tanty - he just worked his way into the game and turned the tide in the 3rd quarter like the match-winner he is. Keep it up Fev. :thumbsu:

Re: Brendan Fevola

This happened at our end Saturday night. An indication of how much Fev is excited with footy at the moment and how much he loves Brownie.

Knocked Brownie down in his exuberance. Was quite amusing.

Good on you Fev, after the beer throwing Brisbane wench episode last year it's good to see your community spirit!!
I love the way that the guy's story is basically "I was minding my business when Fev came over and started abusing the Bulldog fans". When the reality is that the Bulldog fans were opening their wallets and offering Fev cash (possibly betting on Brownie banging through the set shot he was just lining up for). I loved Fev's reaction as the ball sailed through over his head too :)

Brendan Fevola's home dream falls victim to gambling addiction

BRENDAN Fevola has suffered another shattering setback to his dreams of a new life for his family in Brisbane with the contract on their new home collapsing and his wife Alex returning to Melbourne indefinitely. The glamour couple were due to settle on a $1.4 million family home this week, but the purchase has fallen through in the wake of Fevola's admission to a gambling addiction.

Brendan Fevola Approached Mobsters
Gambling 911

Informers allege Fev telephone to Mr Gatto last year asking for tens of thousands of dollars in short-term cash loans in attempt stave off loan sharkies. The octopus tentacles spread far and wide in our info net advise Gatto told Fev to concentrate on football rather than on the punt and declined to give the moolah.

A Gold Coast underworld heavy made death threats Fev. Mr X claims the illegal moneylender threatened Fevola over an outstanding $70,000 grand. "When they found out the loan shark had form, they paid up that day," Mr X said.

Re: Brendan Fevola

Gotta love some of the moronic vitriol cast about in the replies to the CM articles. Congratulations to the cheap muckrakers that wet themselves at the prospect of trying to unravel someone elses personal life in print (Hammo, Barrett & Hutchy, you're absolute ****ing filth). Nice to see plenty of morons forming opinions based on their missives. Unfortunately, when they leave their computers, they don't have a little moron symbol branded on their forehead so people can just not bother with them.

Only Compromise can stop Richmond
Patrick Smith

Other clubs have tried to do a bit of both -- discipline and seeking victory at the same time -- and achieved neither. Look at Carlton and Brendan Fevola. The club refused to punish him because he was a potential match-winner. With Fevola under no threat of being held to account, the club suffered. The brand was bashed, the club lost the respect of the broad community.

Contract falls through on a house he never actually owned = "Fevola loses dream home to addiction"

Wife and kids go back to Melbourne for the Anzac Day weekend (where Fev will be joining them) = "wife and kids leave".

Geez they are really gunning for him now... no time to let things like facts and accurate reporting complicate matters.

Re: Brendan Fevola

As to an apology to Fevola, Davey declined the opportunity. "He gobbed off at me and I threw some beer at him, I think that's a fair exchange,'' he said.
"I don't talk to idiots.''

campbelldavey.jpg

It's a bit of a strange coincidence that after a Brisbane supporter threw a drink at a Bulldogs player last year, the reverse happens this year.

And the goal posts seem to have moved. The Brisbane supporter was publicly shamed and harshly criticised, but this incident isn't really being treated like all that big a deal (apart from Voss).

Channel 9 trying to go one up on that awesome headline..

Fevola's wife leaves over house troubles

AFL star Brendan Fevola's wife has reportedly left him when financing for his new home fell through after he admitted to a gambling addiction.

Fevola's wife Alex has taken their children back to Melbourne indefinitely after the footballer was unable to arrange a loan for a $1.4 million house in Brisbane, the Courier Mail reported.

Should send an email to media watch & ask them to see how much shonky journalism they can point out in this saga.
