News Brent Harvey Games Record Jumper

What a flog. Arrogant knob. I know the club would have put him in that jumper but C'MON, REALLY? ,wearing your OWN TRIBUTE JUMPER?

You're right.

I can't believe they didn't use Robbie Nahas in the promotional shots for Brent Harvey's record breaking game.

I hope they and the AFL actually make a huge deal about this.
Just because it's trendy on BigFooty to dislike him (and anyone worth respect, mind you) doesn't mean we should play down the achievement.
Sure it's just another game, but it's not really.

It's highly unlikely whatever record he sets (including if he plays next year) will be broken again, possibly in our lifetime.
We've seen Dustin Fletcher limp into 400, the closest in Pav is walking into 350 and the end of the year and yet Boomer is still racking up quality disposals.

Embrace the hugeness of it, because it's likely for some here they will only realise just how special this moment is in AFL history in a few years time.

That is cool. Who are North's ball sponsors? Pretty good of them to give up their spot for a game to recognise the achievement.
Chemist Warehouse, I believe.
I'm sure they're getting some kind of compensation, we'll probably include them a bit more in the 'match day experience'.

Top post, this record will likely never be beaten, and we're all lucky to see it. Real fans of the game shouldn't let club tribalism or dull criticisms of his playing style get in the way of celebrating an amazing feat of endurance, conditioning and professionalism. Plus he's a top little player and always has been.

This jumper sucks, and turns what should be a pretty damn momentous occasion into a joke in my eyes. If they want a commemorative jumper then fine. Frame and sell something like this, but don't run onto the field in this monstrosity. Ick.

Why do some clubs seem keen to pump out these special "one off's" every three weeks? This same sect of clubs are happy to bastardize their own jumper for some coin, and it's just ridiculous. I'm actually kinda happy WC have his invisible rule of "we can only have this many different jumpers a year", at least you know it's going to be somewhat good. How this thing ever got pushed beyond the concept stage astounds me.

Im not defending the design, I'm probably more pissed off about it than anyone.

But every three weeks? Jesus, the bloke is breaking the league games record, kind of worth celebrating I would have thought.

And the clubs who bastardise their own jumper for coin? Are you one of those people who also bags North for getting handouts and not standing on their own feet? We can't afford to ignore good opportunities to make money, that's the world we live in.

And West Coast don't mind pumping out the premiership wings commentator jumpers either.

Of course it's worth celebrating, but it could have been done better. That's my point. This jumper makes what he's achieved in the game a mockery. There's no need for something crass like this. A Small badge on the breast or something subtle would be more than apt.

No I'm not, so you can take that argument back with you. I'm all for clubs making money through any avenue they can.

Again, in my previous post I mentioned that, but they aren't nearly as obtuse or silly looking as jumpers like this, or the sugar daddy jumpers we see every few weeks celebrating odd things. Even then, the commemoration wings jumpers don't look overly ridiculous. They're by and large the same jumper we wore in the premiership years. Only ones that look a little "eh" are the 25th and 30th year ones with the names on the front.

I thought the same when Tuck and Bartlett were finishing. The trend of football after them was that 30 was over the hill. Travel was supposed to limit some players capabilities and salary cap was meant to alter things.

Good luck to Young Harvey and his achievement.

But you said...

And while a small badge or something may have been more appropriate, it wouldn't have been different enough for many people to buy. So if we wanted to make some money, we needed to do something different.

Let's just agree the execution is rubbish.

And what? Those ideas aren't mutually exclusive to each other.

Agreed.

I think a little logo under the sponsor is all that is needed, but if they want to impose on the jumper they might as well go the whole hog, I've used an old logo to reflect the historic importance of the event because I'm sure the marketing gurus will love it, and I've just made the ribbon under the logo say Brent Harvey 427*. The whole jumper thing is ridiculous I feel.

On the last bit, there is a fair bit of hate for the sugar daddy and blatant cash grab jumpers clubs are bringing out now. Just look at the power rangers top, horrid but supported by the club because it was their biggest seller.

My personal view is a main jumper, a clash jumper, a heritage jumper, and then no more than two charity jumpers throughout the year (and stronger rules on how much money is returned to said charities for these jumpers)

* on the heritage jumper I'd like to see these used more in place of away kits or alt clash kits like the lions do with their Roy's version when playing in Melbourne. No need to force it with a heritage round, and better than a cartoon or a sugar daddy

Best example of course is the eagles. Navy with wings, royal with wings, yellow with wings. Gives them all the flexibity they need in managing lack of clash issues, and returned a fan fav to the shelves.

Its really subtle, the jumper. I don't know if the message is clear enough. There is something different, I just cant pick it.

Honestly, I think its tacky, gaudy, and stuffs your jumper. Understand the cash grab. All likelihood this will NEVER happen again, but wow, I recoil.
On the other hand, the ball looks great.

And big ups to the man himself. Huge effort. Even though I will never look up to him, I look up to him.

A jumper like that would look great, even with a Boomer logo (similar to what they did for his North games record jumper) instead of the club logo. If you're going for a once off jumper make it different and unique, not just the regular jumper with a god awful band of blue!

I feel like the years of kids looking through photos of Boomer breaking this unbreakable record in a white and blue, normal Kangas jumper is worth more (even financially) than them cashing in a blue one now.

Some bloke on the North board got a couple.
Looks better, and it's actually got me around to thinking I'll get one.
It's not like I'll see the record broken again, anyway.

"The record breaker" is a very cool touch, too.

Looks like a training kit to me.

It is a big deal for a player to break the all time games record, but the current obsession with clubs releasing a special jumper and range of overpriced merch to match every time someone farts is irritating. It's all about the dollar dollar, and really just dilutes a clubs brand. I was in the city yesterday and must have seen several dozen variations of the North jumper amongst the fans going along to Etihad, which would confuse a visitor or someone unfamiliar with the game. Contrast that with the sea of red when Man U plays, for example - no mistaking that sight.

Not sure if soccer is the greatest comparison. They change kits every season (generally keeping the same base but look at someone like Southampton who have mixed with plain red v red and white stripes. Couple that in with randomly coloured away kits and it's a mess.

North is royal blue and white, nothing more and nothing less.

Surely not including different manufacturers here?
