Brent Stanton's decison making

Yes it is woeful, that and his unaccountability are the only things stopping him from becoming a great damaging player. He's stopped being soft, now all we need him to do his fix these two things and we'll be a much better side for it.

If he has poor decision making, poor skills and a lack of accountability, what in God's name is he doing in the 22! Cos there isn't anyone coming through putting pressure on his spot!

As soon as Myers, Hislop, Jetta, Dempsey et al are all firing it'll be trade time for Mr. Stanton!

I have NEVER been a fan of Stanton, some people think that magically he'll be able to dispose the football as an elite midfielder. My lord he's atrocious. The ONLY thing Stanton has is an ability to run all day period.

He'll be 28 and I'll still hear "but when they teach him to kick he'll be elite"!

Stanton is NO GOOD!!! Never has been any good and NEVER will be!!!

Houli has shown more in his 2nd season than Stanton. Stanton received hype cos he was playing AFL at 17, same time our midfield became the worst in the competition!!! ;)

who would take his place if he got kicked to the two's?? ,he is a bit soft but he has seemed to improve since last year. and why the f__k would u give the number to tayte pears only got 5 possentions for the game and 28 for the year he is a good chance to get dropped this week rather than stanton who got 25 possentions .you should piss off and barrack for another team .it pisses me off so much whem our own supporters bag our own team:mad:

It's frustration. Deep down we were all aware this was going to be a long long season.

I bag our team because these players, who are inept at their skill, are being paid the same as the next team and so on and so forth. Therefore I'd expect the same level of output or at least ferocity/intensity at the ball. :thumbsu:

Over Time??? He's been at Essendon for 5 years!!!!! BRENT YOU ARE WEAK!!!!! CANT KICK, CANT HANDBALL, CANT DO SQUAT!!!!! YOU ARE THE MOST USELESS MIDFIELDER IN THE COMP!!!!! GIVE THE NUMBER 5 TO TAYTE PEARS. HE'S GOT HEART AT LEAST!!!!!
need a tissue mate.
if it wasnt for stanton we wouldnt have the run and drive
yeah sure he is a reciever but he runs harder than anyone else in the team

Well if your calling him weak mate. u go out there and show us how its done and get all the essendon supporters coming down on you like a ton of bricks and see how it feels. Who gives a flying F___ about the number 5. Should Aaron Henneman been wearing Dick Reynolds number? Should Monfries be wearing Sean Wellman's number? Should Andrew Lee be wearing Justin Blumfield's number? WHO GIVES A FLYING F___ MATE

Stanton is a receiver, fit as anyone, but will always be a receiver. When we get some better midfielders, (not Monfries, Slats or Dyson) he might get a kick or two that actually are effective.

Jobe gets lots of contested footy for himself, you have to respect that.

By the way anyone else had a gutfull of Welsh getting soft possesions, then being the King of slowing the play down only to then kick it to a contest.

I can say whatever i feel bout this goon! Its called freedom of speech! I know your bias cos ya love this guy (for whatever reason i have no idea) but he is a joke! Everybody has a go at Peverill bout his disposal but Brent's is diabolical! He has a big fat zero improvement in him. Delist or trade at season's end. Well maybe just delist him cos no club is gonna want Brent.

He is our most disappointing player in terms of the potential he has. Early in his career he was earmarked as our midfield hope and looked the goods too. I thought "yes, at last we have one midfielder who will fill the void and could possibly be a future captain of the club". The only negative was that he made a few poor decisions from time to time. But I wasn't too fussed at this stage, as these would be ironed out in the next pre-season. This never happened. In fact he developed bigger problems.

He sells teamates into trouble. Fumbles. Misses targets. Calls for the ball in the stupidest positions. Goes to ground when he needs to keep his feet.

He shows no heart. Stanton receiving Hirds number is suposed to inspire him. James Hird. The greatest player to ever grace the Essendon Football Club. If it were me being passed down Hirdys number, I sure know how it would make me feel. Have a hard look at yourself Stanton. You could be such an asset to the club and could be the midfielder that takes us to our next flag. Heres hoping.

The last few years he has been slowly building totake the comp by storm. His problem this year appears to be that he has read and is believing the hype about himself. He doesnt appear to be running hard enough and is scunging easy kicks. He continually runs around in a nonthreatening position waving his arms looking for the ball, his disposal is way down from previous seasons also. He looks like he is playing like a cross between Camporeale and Buckley, both soft receivers, the problem is his disposal and vision has been disgusting.

For those saying he is the worst midfielder, maybe you want to look at our list, he is in our best 3 but not performing there yet.

I for one have also been disappointed with Stants efforts to date. I don't buy into the standard argument that his kicking is crap. Think that it has improved. Seen him hit numerous targets over decent distances so far this season. Just didn't get enough of it the first few rounds.
What worries me is his body language sometimes. He will run forwards of the play flapping his hands like a seagull trying to take off, demanding that the ball be given to him. Or, he'll run around the back of players who have possession of the ball, looking for the cheap possie, in both instances he's not necessarily in the best position to take the ball, just expects that it should be given to him. Well thats how i've been reading it anyway. Dont know if the hype of being given the number 5 and the mantle of next great white hope has gone to his head somewhat.
And for those of you who have been saying its just a number.. blah blah. Really guys get your hands off it. Of course it is just a number. But we all know it means more than that. It mean more to us as supporters, and im damn sure it means a lot to the players. Don't they have numbered lockers with previous champions names on them. At the moment Stants is doing a disservice to the amount of faith that was put into him giving him the great mans number. Im sure he knows it as well, lets hope he can start to deliver on that faith.

What I can't understand is why some people think he has improved from last year. I can't understand what that has been based on, he's been shithouse in 6 games this season. He gets cheap possessions, he can't kick, he doesn't put his head over the ball, puts his teammates under pressure, doesn't put oppostion under any defensive pressure and when he does get tagged he gets towelled.

I feel like a broken record but people actually think he's good which just absolutely amazes me!

we used to be a good ____ing side till Loyd took over the captaincy! he's shit! so is the side! we used to be tough until Mathews side made us bleed! so Bombers are ____ed and going no-where for 5 years!

My lord a 34 year old won our B&F last year cos the rest of them were too shit to take on a bigger load... Hird deserved to have players around him work for him instead it was all Hird.

Look at our top 10 in the B&F last season, what a disgrace! Too little from too many or too much from too few?? Take your pick!

I am wondering what Stants has against Rama becasue he set him up with three lovely handballs when Rama was well and truely covered. It was almost like he was saying here Rama you deal with this.

Just a young guy respecting his elders is all.

For a guy who can make some excellent decisions at times his disposal can also be ordinary.

I think part of this is an instinctive thing, he seems to be ok when given a little bit of time to work out what to do, or when he knows he's going to get the ball before hand, it's just when he gets it under pressure he might be going back to earlier habits of dishing it off quickly/passing it off to older players and giving them the responsibility of doing the great pass.

Used to happen a lot with people (nearly everyone in the team did it at times) passing to Hird when Hird wasn't always the best option.

As the guys get used to the new game plan a bit more I think we'll see less of this kind of stuff from Stanton and others. Right now they just seem to be indeciscive at times about what option to follow.

Watson seems to have fallen into the same trap - trying to pinpoint passes/handballs to guys covered by 2 or 3 opposition. The team needs to realise that they don't have the skill or penetration of a side like Geelong, and can't hit guys on the chest lace out from 50m, or handball to a bloke running in the middle of 3 opposition players and expect it to come off.

Trying things is one thing - consistently trying stupid things is another.
