lot of players stood up today. In fact if it wasnt for goalkicking accuracy, Id say that was a good all round performance.

Thornton, Laidler, Judd, Murphy, Simpson, Yarran, Betts, Garlett, Walker, Joseph all went really well. Robinson was ok, but disappointing at times, hdnerson was quiet, warnock continues to reinforce the "tap ruckman only" label - he was useless forward IMO (see Sandis performance in the last quarter as a comparison). Warnock and Sandi dead even on 24 hitouts each - and Sandilands couldnt jump at all.

T-bird should be ok. Concussion is the biggest issue, aside from that the injury is similar to a UFC fighter getting punched on the cheek line. The blood vessels heamorrhage and makes it look bad but it will go down quickly if it is drained and iced etc.

From twitter
"Thornton knocked a blood vessel which is why it popped up straight away. The ambulance was only precautionary." #RattenPresser

Hopefully he's alright for next week. Thought he was absolutely fantastic today

has become (again) an important member of our team, topped off by taking a huge hit in a display of his commitment today, kudos to him, I've been a critic but I admit I'm wrong...let's hear from the other critics...

Didn't get to see the clash (listened on the radio). .. Was expecting the Thornton haters to be glad but everyone is eating humble pie. .. I guess I get to eat nice warm apple pie, considering I copped flack on here for sticking up for him earlier in the year :)

Hope he is alright for next week. It looked nasty. :(

He played a really good game prior to that. Massive credit to him to change his game (and attitude it would seem). He is an important player, and definitely in our best 22. :thumbsu:

Thornton could play next week if it isn't a broken cheekbone.
Ratts said the hospital visit was just precautionary.

Fresh from Facebook:

Bret Thornton has been cleared of any facial fractures with scans showing he has soft tissue bruising only. He will fly back to Melbourne with the team tonight.

He's been fantastic this year, in partic the last month, his swing man role and marking is so important, commitment tonight did enough to douse the doubters, playing with confidence and vastly improved and loving his contribution, hope he is ok and plays next week cos he deserves any success his way :thumbsu:

Thanks for that. Saw a quote floating around but could not find it in time for my last post.

He'll likely play next week but precautionary measures could see him miss. Hope not though - he is having a very good season, was excellent this afternoon & will be vital for us next Friday night.

Good to hear free of facial fractures, probably assumed the worse as you don't see a face beaten up that bad too often.
The faster is swells, the better chance there is of minor damage, as it is unlikely to be a bone injury.
