Collingwood's renewed attack on Brisbane's retention allowance was little more than a smear campaign designed to distract the club in preliminary final week, according to Lions chief executive Michael Bowers.

Ummm Didn't Sheedy kick that off with his pre match article?

Methinks they doth protest too much

Also Caroline Wilson on the Saturday and some other Journo on the Sunday, all before Eddie said a word

Wouldn't Collingwood's case be strengthened if Brisbane smash the opposition?

It is 100% in Brisbane's interests to paint cap concession disquiet as sour grapes and that is what they do. Haven't the SA clubs also made a submission? Regardless, we can expect to see lots of posturing about how they need to retain players that a few months back they praised for taking pay cuts. Do Brisbane actually have a worse retention record since they became a well run club that the average?

And before the usual self interested suspects come out with the lie about it now being equal it plainly isn’t. Firstly the concessions aren’t available to all bext year regardless of list. Then again what's another flag or two hey? Secondly a club can’t re engineer a list in 1 year even if they wanted to. Thirdly it would involve not taking the nest available player which is what the cap concession clubs are fighting for themselves. Fourthly the revamp is specifically designed to apply automatically to two clubs alone. Finally retention is not a significant issue for well run clubs and in any event the trade and draft offer the correction mechanism anyway.

It is success push marketing so lets just rename it that.

I don't know about the Cows but I believe Port have made a submission. If the SCC for Brisbane is based on a "homesick" allowance then Port, with a large number of interstate recruits, want it also.

I don't think anyone can REALLY make a judgement without knowing the full remuneration available to players in each city. This includes direct payments from the club and other opportunities from sponsorship.

As far as I can see, Voss gets his mug on Carlton Mid Strength signs at pubs and drive-throughs but I don't know if that is part of his commitments to promoting club sponsors or a personal earner. The other top Brisbane players seem to get the odd used car dealership commercial out West and that's about it. Akermanis gets the odd TV interview.

Mate, you might be standing on the steps but it's still the cellar.
You'll be reacquainting yourself with the cellar when sanctioned cheating ends, back to being the nobodies of the AFL

Mate you need to see a doctor this obsession with Brisbane has become a sickness
Just a shot of antibiotics and some sanity from the AFL should do the trick

What Collingwood either doesn't know or chooses to ignore is that by 2006 all clubs will have access to the retention allowance. This is a non-issue."

The retention allowance is designed so Brisbane can offer more money to prevent players returning to their home states.

Bowers said there were inequities within the player payments, and pointed to the Magpies paying $800,000 in veteran payments this year.

"If you add up the $800,000 and all the money Collingwood players earn in promotion and media appearances, I think their players are getting a lot more than ours," Bowers said.

Who other than Buckley who is on the veterans list? Is the $800K half the payment to those players (EG they are getting 1.6m) or the full payment?

And what you fail to understand is you will have lost 2 premierships by then and your young, talented list will be asking for more money and go the way of the 2000 Bombers

Flying thick and fast. 16 more days and the 4 in a row record may well be matched. Watch this campaign gather momentum if the record looks like being broken next year. What will the Pies have to hang their hat on then?

They will have their organised crime inspired, dirty money premierships under the old crooks McHale and Wren.

Took illegal under the table gambling, prostitution, and mabye even drug money during the 20's, 30's, 40's and right up to the 50's. All Collingwood players and officials were on the take for up to 40 years.

A disgraceful episode in VFL history, and one Collingwood supporters should be ashamed of, especially when pointing at other clubs winning premierships legally, and without crime money.
