Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Back on draftees rather than trade targets, I see from the BF Phantom Draft trial that Gilbert McAdam's son Charlie is a possible draftee. Unfortunately, with the 100 game father-son rule (Gilbert only played about 50, from memory) we can't pick him up that way, even if we wanted to. Has played for NT Thunder in the AFLQ after representing the territory as an overaged player at the u/18 champs. I've heard he goes OK with a bit of toe and agility, as well as a nice kick. Rookie or better?

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Is Matt Campbell from North worth a look? His season this year hasn't been great (with injury a factor) and the Kangas have a few small options up forward. He did kick 30 odd goals in 2008 and, from what I've seen, works very hard without the pill. No sign from North or Kangas supporters that they want to let him go though.

I believe he is rated higher than Thomas and they go very well in tandem - don't think Campbell will be beamed anywhere...he is part of Scotty's great young list - if either wanted to move it would probably be back to ever lovin' Adelaide.

On Armitage...wasn't he very keen on the Melbourne footy culture?....doubt if he will be hankering to return to Brisbane - or the Saints want to part with him.

He should get picked up and about the third round is where I would expect but you never know especially with the indig guys. He is very agile and has pretty good pace. Was played as a running defender at the Champs and did it well for NT. He reminds me a bit of Krakouer from Port if that helps anyone get a bit of a bead on him. Not sure how he would go up forward which is where we would be interested in him playing.

The problem with Armitage is his liking of the Melb night culture. Also likes the cigs which hampers his reaching his full potential endurance wise.

It absolutely blows me away when I see players smoking and the biggest surprise is that they hardly conceal it. I have seen and know friends who have seen Nick Stevens smoke...and that is not to mention the stuff I have witnessed first hand of what the Eagles and Freo boys get up to. I am not saying our guys are no saints but I have not personally witnessed anything...and I have after all only begun residing in Brisbane on a part-time basis for the past 6 months.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Brisbane should take Manzone, Spring, Grayson, Ben Wieghtman and Todd Panaho. All local home grown boys, that may yet be lost in the system or just go to waste. There have been very few low number draft picks that go nowhere or carry on like low number picks. The names I have mentioned above are all great kids, good families, loyal and dedicated to there footy, mould them into a group and you may have great team.

Thanks Quigs. I am all for getting more pace and run behind the ball so wouldn't object to someone like this being drafted to play down back.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

I know that I am dreaming but I know the 2 players I want Brisbane to target this trade week. Sam Mitchell and Luke Ball. We will only get one of them but that's what im saying. Target both, hopefully get one. We get one of these players and our midfield is set. Just imagine Black, Power, Mitchell. Mitchell is 26 and Ball is 25. I think we should target them. Give up our first round pick for Mitchell if we have to. Do what ever to get him. Thoughts?

I'd rather target Chris Judd and Gary Ablett Jnr - and I'm not dreaming...I'm wide awake.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Maybe a bot off topic, but I really want to hear others opinions on this.

How much draft tampering, or massaging happens in the main draft each year. I mean surely managers would be inclined to tell a club that draft his player, but he will want out in two years, and I will make sure he goes.

I realise it would mainly be evident in top draft picks, but do people think it really happens? Or would a club call a bluff?

I think if you think Sam Mitchell is a reasonable target. I think... well...

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

Mitchell? yeah well...... But Ball might be a possibility... what we really need is a small forward.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

I wonder if there would be any chance of getting Mark Lecras... Maybe a chance to play for a team making finals...

Plenty of cap space at West Coast, and LeCras is have an All-Australian year, I imagine he'll be retained at all costs.

James Polkinghorne. Great in a contest. Takes great grabs. Can kick goals.

He's a good alternative lead up medium forward target, which is really useful for us. But we still need someone who's able to swoop on the loose ball and have that sixth sense for where the goals are, making the most of their opportunities. Hoping Rockliff can become that, but the cupboard's a bit thin after him. The other option is Hooper when he's back in the fold.

Yup. The best forward lines have a flexible arrangement of small forwards. Polks could be our Porplyzia/Medhurst, but we still need a Cyril/Milne.

Every footballer in the vic metro/country side would be better than those players. Draft any of them instead:thumbsu:

spot on. We still need those smaller goal sneak types that can rove the packs for crumbs, as well as push up and put on pressure from behind. With Polks and Rockliff i think we have the medium forwards, but we still need smalls. Hooper will hopefully still come through.

Re: Brisbane Draft Discussion

1st or 2nd round pick it could just be either.

Are you implying that we'd have a chance of getting Cyril with a first/second round pick?

Not even in the same post code of a realistic trade.
