Finals material this season? A contender, yes.

Premiership? Not yet, but building fast.

Still think that it's a long season, meaning that 8th-10th is about right for the Lions, but they're coming hard. Along with Port, they've rebuilt remarkably well.

Still don't think they are all that great. How many games have St Kilda won on the road in the last 5 years? Their away record is pathetic.

Progressing really well and its great to see the young guys continue to improve - I was really happy with last year and the strides the team made despite our lack of wins.

Still way off the premiership but some exciting times ahead - some great spirit in the group too and the guys are a really close knit bunch.

Some tough decisions made are really assisting in making things happen.

Go Lions!

what'd they win by? say 23 points, that's the spread i got!

They are a very tough unit and they wont let you kick a high score on them but it all depends on if their young guns can last the season witch i don't think they can but if they do they will make the 8 easy.

Think that Bruce and Dennis made a good point tonight. It's going to be a long season, and it will be interesting to see how they handle the 22 weeks. Also, they would have been "up" for this game seeing it was Voss' send off. Not so sure that they'll play finals, but I don't think they will be as bad as what I thought they would be.

Somewhere in the 9-12 range I would have thought.

I think they have a lot of good young kids which other clubs do not know a whole lot about and will get under the guard of clubs. They have had a good early preparation and a good pre-season comp and have come out with a fair bit of steam like Collingwood last year.

They could finish in the bottom half of the eight or might just miss out if the kids lose form and become inconsistant, still a bit early to tell. The key is obviously Brown, if he can't play a full season then they may struggle a bit to kick a winning score consistantly.

In the eight would be a fantastic result given finishing bottom four last year but sides can often yo-yo between good and bad years for a while because they don't quite have a solid enough list.

A very honest team.

Not a contender but will make every club that beats them work very very hard.

Definately on the up and to be respected by all.

Not necassarily brisbane being good but St kilda being very poor.
They were hopeless to night and in the 2 quarters i watched last week (1st and 4th) they were also hopeless.

That is not the case. Brisbane played a very good game tonight, and choked St Kilda. You don't win by 52 and not play well.

Brisbane has addressed the problem which caused them to lose the 2004 GF - lack of pace in the midfield. It's also stuffed them the past couple of years. There has been a dimunition in skill in the guts, but it's been compensated by closing speed. There are no easy kicks in there for any opposition team.

I still tend to think we'll be found out during the second half of the year, when our young blokes might run out of legs. The bonus is that all of those young blokes will mature together, in a couple of year's time. If there is still a nucleus of players like Black, Power, Brown, Bradshaw, Lappin there, they may be in a position to give the big one a shake again. By then the young blokes will all be 50 game + players. That's my optimistic assessment anyway.

In the meantime, I'll enjoy my mob having a red-hot go every week, once again. That's all I ask.

Edit: It would appear we are also on the cusp of building another very tight back six. However, I would expect them to be overrun at certain times during this season. I would realistically hope for a 11 won/11 lost scoreline for the season. That probably won't get us in the finals.

The difference tonight was that the Brisbane players were putting their body on the line and pressuring the st kilda players constantly. Although its looking good i can only feel that we might fade out at the end of the season. However time will tell and i hope we can make it to the finals.

I know they flogged us tonight, but I cant see them playing finals.

Tonight was one of the most unmemorable games of footy i've watched. Coupled with the at times disgraceful umpireing, it didnt make for much of a night. I know it's been lamented time and time again on this site, but what the hell is happening to this once great game?

Thank god the SANFL starts this weekend.

You are kidding. The umpires? That is weak.
