The team will be better than last year, Baker and Owies are still good additions, despite the ridiculous cost

He will be fine im sure, at least for couple years

Just another step closer to WCE folding and Freo becoming the biggest player in WA. Sad really. I remember when WCE were good when they basically had an interstate team playing for them.

Not sure how much is his fault, and how much is the Board wanting a light rebuild and top up.

reminds me of when I think it was Scott Watters got the Saints job because he told the board what they wanted to hear - they didn't need to rebiuld, they just needed to get some mature agers and double down on the list because "the talent was there"

Why didn't they go Warner this year? Why waste 3? They could have used 3 and 14 and a future 2nd to get Warner. They could have got owies for nothing and baker in the psd. Where has the ruthless club of the 90s gone?

Whoever is pushing it behind the scenes, McQualter is the one that will be left holding the responsibility down the line. If pick 3 ends up the next Chris Judd when they split that pick to be pick up one of his mates from his former club, they will go nuclear on him.

Not concerned by that, this draft isn't all that. The issue was turning pick 3 into Baker and 12 and not Baker, 12 and something else. or simply 12 & 14.

If McQualter is a good coach he should inject energy and tactical changes into a playing group who's needed new direction for some time. I would wait for some sort of body of evidence in the first half of 2025 before jumping to conclusions. He was clearly the best candidate from the evidence that's come out.

Only 3 games in. Eagles have been competitive despite being winless.

Another 20 games to go....
Early draw certainly didnt help us, teams with strong midfields are our worst enemy, and we came against 3 sides whose midfields are supposedly very strong.
Itll get better.

Some people would wait for him to coach for 2-3 years before talking about sacking him but this is Bigfooty.
Well some predicted west coast will win that 5th flag in 2030 going by the previous 12 year pattern of 1994, 2006 and 2018.

So Mcqualter coaches the eagles in 2025, 2026 and possibly 2027. Eagles make finals in 2028, 2029 then flag in 2030.

As a first year coach trying to implement a new game plan, he’s been absolutely stiffed by the early draw…Brisbane, GWS & Hawks the first three away games (not inc. gather round). Very likely to be 0-7, at best 1-6 if they can snag the Essendon game at home.

It opens up after that a bit more, but going to be some pain through April I feel…

Gather round vs Carlton next. After that is 2 winnable home games. Essendon in round 6.

And with the demons current form, round 8 vs the demons in Perth is winnable too.

I expected eagles to win either one or both

There was probably some sense in splitting the pick - two picks in the early teens in a good draft might be better overall than one early pick.

Going on to torch one on a solid player like Baker is baffling.
The year before they had pick 1 and pick 30 due to the AFL's f#*cked draft system, takes a long time to build a team at that rate, especially when the team immediately above them on the ladder got 5 picks in the top 30 due to AFL handouts.
Basically forced to split picks to turn our list over. They definitely could have done better but have been between a rock and a hard place.

Despite a really tough start, they've shown glimpses of how Mini wants the team to play and he's shown he's willing to make quick changes to address issues shown in games. Just look at the difference between the GC game compared to Brisbane, for example.

Backing in some young players and will move pieces around. Think he'll be totally fine and seems to be pretty popular with the players.
