well peter moore left for big money, but he also experienced serial frustration of being with club that loses grand finals. He might have left for either or both reasons. Some people might say that brodie didnt choose to leave. People will weigh these things out differently.. which makes arguing the point useless.
Yes. But when did the usefulness of arguing ever rate on BF? My point is not that moore & Grundy were similar in any other respect than they played for another team & I love em both.

Where I can see this thread being useful is when AFL begins again and Grundy and Gawn are working in tandem. I will be interested to watch Grundy's ruck battles and his follow up to try and measure what he and us have gained or lost through the trade.

Henry is no longer on the 1st page, that thread seems to be dying a natural death but Grundy attracts a special kind of scorn.
I think there'd good reason for that, and it's not so much Grundy per se (apart from a couple of posters) that attracts the scorn but how much self-inflicted damage the club has brought onto itself.

Obviously that deal was a very damaging one but just one of many that has valid, very very valid criticism.

The incompetent drivers of those are now gone, but the club is still paying for all those * ups and we're still hampered. Imagine if those incompetent crayon eaters were gone before their stupid decisions.

We would've likely witnessed a dynasty and had another flag since then................... but no.:(

Some things at Melbourne will not change - eg Clayton Oliver will still be annoying

Don't forget a dominant figure who could not keep his fat fingers out of FD issues -

My point is that it seems that tolerance of negative or derisive comments about other players (or posters) seems to be dependent on the player, the background to the comments and sometimes the poster him/her self who is commenting. We may have rules but often they seem to be selectively applied.

Thank you for bringing all the negative comments made about Henry into this thread. It highlights how much better we need to do as a community in terms of treating ex-players with respect.

It's not "more acceptable" to throw insults Henry's way. There is no double standard.

The mod team might have dropped the ball in letting things go too far with Ollie, but that doesn't mean that we should continue to overlook the rubbish tossed at any player that leaves.

It's nothing to do with "free speech" as some may have suggested - it's about knowing when to stop or put another way - freaking growing up

well i dont give my love away as easy as you seem to do, but I can understand their actions and I might have done the same things or less, if I was in their shoes. I think in the end, you start as a 5 year old with attitudes of a 5 year old. Hopefully, we all group up a little over time. I learnt how to conduct my relationships by watching Neighbours....but a huff and a puff and mailing letter bombs just doesnt appeal to me these days.

But I must also say that I dont wish grundy well, or henry. Both are opposition players and I probably wish them ACLs and other minor barriers along their way.

I don't wish Henry well and have to confess to expressing some negative thoughts in a couple of threads regarding his power of speech or deficiency thereof. Grundy was a victim of a loss of form or being worked out by other teams or both. Whatever his faults and failings, he wanted to remain at Collingwood (though the club and many supporters wanted him gone). I don't want to see him excel at his new club, but nor do I wish him ill.

well that's a balanced approach... in reality I'd be happy to see grundy win the brownlow if we win the premiership. In fact, I'd be happy for scott morrison to get another go at prime minister, if we got the flag...

Grundy is the sort of bloke you would love to have in your family.
A fine young man. Wish him all the best whichever way his career pans out.
Henry is a sissy boy although don't wish any ill towards him.

I can never dislike Grundy.

Just a note of warning. The use of Sissy boy is being outlawed in social media from midnight tonight.

Some players invite harsh criticism through their own actions or attitude. Dayne Beams is the best example of such a player. He became a loathsome creature to supporters and short of outright libel, anything negative said about him in this forum was probably justified and fully understandable.

Henry was a very different case, because in some respects his reason for seeking a change of club was not totally unreasonable. However, the manner in which the trade was conducted, despite being reminiscent of our procurement of Luke Ball, really angered people. There was also a substantial element of disappointment involved in posters' reactions. (By the way, the comments I selected came from only about 7 pages of the thread. If I had included ALL the negative ones, I would still be compiling them).

I have a few Saints mates. Apparently Lyon had a go at Ball in front of the playing group. Ball wasn't happy and snapped back.
Lyon responded with "why don't you go to a club like Collingwood "

Ball: "ok I will"

Saints mates swear this is truth.

I have no idea

Your angle and language on Grundy isn't classy.

Referring to him as Soy Boy might be acceptable if you were willing to look him in the eye and address him that way.

Doing so behind the anonymity of a keyboard using the guise of a passionate supporter who loves the club... not so much.

If this is the sort of content that will live on the first page of our board then we're better off locking the damn thread. It doesn't flatter us.

Please….

So it’s OK for all of you to sprout all sorts of garbage in the Whipping Boys thread. In the guise of jest and jocularity…..

Some could say that, some of those comments, are thinly veiled with actual derogatory intent. But they’re ok as we accept the garbage present in that thread…..

My reference to Soy Boy comes from his many many many shots from his InstaHam and FakeBook postings of himself buying and drinking coffees from all his travels.

How you perceived the comments is on you. But I gather you may have already had the subconscious thoughts about him. Given how you’ve taken the meaning of Soy Boy……

No matter what I think of him. The coaching panel and Football Department at the Pies thought even less. That’s why he is at the Dreamons now.

Let’s see how things pan out over the next few years…..

Relating to the adjectives to describe grundy, here is passage describing a famous pie player of the past

"He joined Collingwood in 1969, and it is no surprise his hairstyle drew as much attention as his football ability in first year. As detailed in Michael Roberts’ A Century of the Best, one night at training Magpies coach Bob Rose “came out, pinned him to the ground and gave him ‘one of the best basin cuts you’ve ever seen'”.

Des Tuddenham recalled saying to the teenager from Noorat: “You can’t look like a girl, son, if you’re going to play a man’s game.” ###### wouldn’t listen. He grew his locks back as soon as he could."

Yes it does, not sure why there is a need to use this type of name-calling.

Soy boy is an insult towards an allegedly feminine or low-testosterone (and therefore unmasculine and unmanly) male.

I suggest that you look at BF rules that everyone agrees to when signing up.

Really……..You’ve come up with that definition yourself.

Geez you must think even less of Soy Boy than I do.

I provided my reasons on the Soy Boy comment in a previous post.
