Brown wants out!

I am not so sure. They only played with that setup 1 maybe 2 games last year, with Tarrant going forward with Cloke & Dawes. And Tarrant had the flexibility to go back as well as forward. Lynch & Dawes don't have that string to their bow. So I honestly doubt they were looking for that.

They wouldnt of had anyone on the list capable, if you have to play Cameron Wood you are absolutely scraping the bottom for back up ruckmen. Dawes was the one they wanted to go into the ruck but he was worse in that role.

They need someone to do it, you cant play two ruckmen and Jolly absolutely needs to rest.

Lynch just about won a B&F in that role a few years ago.. he is a very capable back up ruckman/forward. Well... he isnt the greatest bloke for the role but who else is available? and free?? and cheap??? and also still playing pretty good football... played just about every game for us this year and even spent time rucking against Collingwood in that very role.

Farren Ray..??

Jolly definitely needs rest and I agree Lynch is good for the role. I thought you were saying that you believed Collingwood wanted to play all 3, as in Lynch, Cloke & Dawes?
I am saying I believe they are just replacing Dawes with Lynch and immediately get a player who has more experience as a ruck and did it quite well as you say above '09.
I believe if Collingwood had told Dawes; there is still a spot for him if he gets back his form he would have stayed.

They had three talls and Jolly when they won the flag though didnt they?

IMO It would be a better fit for them if they played Lynch as a ruckman/forward, and Dawes/Cloke as the CHB/FF 's with Jolly also rucking. Id be suprised if they only had two tall forwards and 1 x ruckman. Hell we play with Kenney, Lynch, Naita, Cox and Darling.

Yeah you are right they did. Dawes, Cloke, Brown & Jolly.
That was what the difference between Malthouse & Bucks I think. After Brown retired Bucks didn't try and replace him. Just went in with Cloke, Dawes & Jolly with the occasional game for Tarrant thrown forward.

I dont disagree with any of that.

I dont think Buckley would be desperate to retain anyone, they probably told him to shape up or he wont get a game. I also 100% believe that they recruited Lynch to play a three tall forward line, so as long as Dawes got back to his best im also 100% positive he would of been a part of that forward line over the other kids you mentioned.
Probably, but I reckon Paine has a lot more upside than Dawes and what they have done in recent years at Collingwood is bring the younger ones, that they identify as being really good, into the senior team, at the expense of someone older, even if the older option is almost certain to produce more than them right at that time, because they know that before long the younger one is going to go past them and they want to speed that process up.

They did this really well in 2010, for instance, when they stopped playing the likes of O'Bree and Josh Fraser and so on, despite some of them clearly performing better than the younger ones that replaced them at that time. By the end of the season though, the younger ones had improved out of sight and were a major reason they won the flag (especially Sidebottom, who did so well in the granny).

They might have had this in mind for next year, maybe hoping to fast-track Paine, at the expense of Dawes, now that they'll have Cloke and Lynch there with him. They may have also liked the idea of Cloke, Lynch and Goldsack and may have said to Dawes that he was behind all those 3.

Liam Pickering was on trade radio this morning and conceded that Mitch Brown was no certainty to make it to the Saints and that a deal is no closer. I feel we have put Pickering back in his place and have told him Brown is very much required. Your move St Kilda.

Refer to post #865. :thumbsu:

Ha Ha, that's cute. It played even better than the first time you used it. I can't wait for you to complete your trilogy. As a matter of fact this morning was the first time Pickering has taken a backwards step in regards to Brown being traded. Now if only some of your supporters could get your head around that everything would be as it should be. A Eagles board without St Kilda supporters.

And i think to myself, what a wonderful world.

If you are implying he is not going anywhere and that St Kilda have conceded this, then my question to you would be, why are you still here?

If you are implying that he will be traded and you know for what then stop procrastinating and referring to your old posts and just spit it out.

Otherwise.....

They've also got Lachlan Keeffe, who showed some very good form before he required a knee reconstruction.

Surely if Dawes is worth 20 then Brown is worth more than 24. I know Melbourne wants forwards but if given the choice wouldn't Brown still be a better pickup? What am I missing?
Can he play forward?

Don't think he adds a lot to us (due to having enough of that type of player), but Ray in nowhere near as bad as some people make out.

He's Rosa but far softer, he'd really only be depth for us as I'd take Gaff/Rosa/Embley/Sheppard over him in that outside role every day of the week.

You clearly have not seen Farren Ray play if you think he is soft.

Seen plenty of him, didn't mean he was 'soft' in general just that his body work is inferior to that of Rosa's, getting him would be a downgrade on a player we currently possess.

the poster made a comparative assessment. Not that Ray is soft but he is softer that Rosa. On 2012 form I would agree completely.

Hence no need for him on our list as he doesn't improve our chances. ie would not get a game over Rosa and certainly not over Gaff.

I didn't say anything about whether you need him on your list.

The poster said "he is Rosa but far softer". That is just not true, he is not softer than Rosa and definitely not far softer.
