Prediction Bruce Weber for Port Hall of Fame

Weber knew that if we sat on our hands as per the SANFL plan, there was a risk that Port—as ridiculously credentialed as it was to be the first team entered—would have been shafted by the SANFL in favour of other clubs. Clubs like Glenelg. Clubs that didn't have the history or the credentials to have a legitimate claim but had enough of the establishment on side to get the numbers.

Don't for one second presume that we were an automatic inclusion in the mind of the SANFL. My firm belief is that if Port didn't make the first move, then there would have been two pseudo-composite sides entered in SA, one east side and one west. Neither would have been Port Adelaide.

Weber made a bold move that ensured the survival of the Port Adelaide legacy at great personal expense and the club needs to acknowledge this. Considering that we are now free of the SNAFL shackles and controlling power, now is the perfect time.

Put me down as an "aye".

Man with a vision....

Great work Tribey.

Bruce Weber should be revered the same way Big Bob is and kids born into Port Adelaide should learn who he is and what he did the same way we do Bob McLean and Fos and God and Cahill and Motley and well you know what I mean.

I am in the yes camp.

We should never shy away from that moment in history. We should celebrate it and laude the people involved in it. Nothing would spite our enemies more than throwing it back in their faces. Here here I say. Great call.

It was the single biggest turning point in our clubs history, since we nabbed a nuggety little rover from West Adelaide.

Me too. Quoting myself from a few months ago on a similar topic.

I continue to be thankful for the Port Adelaide visionaries who realised in 1990 that the SANFL was already dead. No amount of sledging about 119, tarps etc. will detract from the fact that we avoided a slide into irrelevance and will be around in our own right for another 100 plus years. If Glenelg, Norwood, or West Adelaide had the vision, ability and balls to do that Cornes, Rowe, and Cunningham would be singing another tune.

Met Bruce in the late 70s in Moomba, BAM was his company, which had an old STA/ MTT buses fitted out for the specialised installation & maintenance work required in the Gas fields, realistically the first real portable work shop I had seen.

Agree on the lack of recognition he has received but more so the flack and the consequences from his actions for the PAFC.

I always thought of Weber Wing being the appropriate recognition

... I reckon it's about time we gave Bruce Weber his due ... The least we can do is officially recognise his invaluable contribution by giving our visionary former President posthumous entry into the Port Adelaide Football Club Hall of Fame.
Invite Leigh Whicker, Max Basheer et al to the ceremony. The least we can do seeing we unaccountably failed to provide them with the opportunity to attend his funeral.

So, candidates for the PAFC Hall of Fame are reviewed biennially, do we know when the next intake is?

Having read through the 'Before the Crows, there was the Redlegs' thread, and doing a little bit of wider reading, I think we really need to push for Bruce Weber's inclusion.

Would it be useful to email KT about this?

Reading from that link, I can't stop laughing at the fact it seems you had to have at least 5 premierships to be given a look in.

Well except Craig Bradley that is.

Bruce! In a nice symmetry the club administrators who got us to Adelaide oval should oversee Bruce's 'canonisation'.

Edit: yes, how is Tredrea not already there???
