Seriously, what's his caper? Get excited!! A gold medal every morning and he calls it as if it's Jack High (no offense to the bowlers out there).

Cometti (who could have gone since at Ch7) and Ray Rabs are a lot better swimming commentators.

He creams himself over Phelps but has no emotion for our winners. He's a disgrace.

Get Simon Marshall in there.

Sounds a bit flat your right. My theory is...

He has to call numerous heats/semi's and finals everyday for over 2 weeks.

If he goes off every single race he would have no voice left.

Simon would be cheering on other nations to drown, would be good comic relief.

Agreed though, Bruce is so dull, bones Phelps, but doesn't get the slightest bit excited when we do something good in the pool.

did an absolutely diabolical job on the Stephanie Rice wins. Both were very close wins and he was commentating as if it was a heat.

One of the finals we won i actually thought it might be a heat, such was a reaction from the commentators.

I was thinking the same thing has bruce lost his Mo-jo? I was getting ready for the whole "Rice is lifting she's taking the lead oh SENSATIONAL GOLD for Australia!" but all we got was "rice wins by a touch...... and on to the next race"

It's disgraceful! who give a **** about Phelps we want Australia to win for christ sake we want Gold for Australia!

everyone having the same problem I have to keep checking if it was actually a final a semi or a heat!

how can you not get excited when an Aussie chick comes from behind to win Gold? HOW?!!!

It really has been a pathetic showing. Even when Hayden Stoeckel won that surprise Bronze after storming home, he barely had a reaction. And in Rice's 200 IM, in what was a ripper race with a thrilling comeback, he barely got excited.

But for Phelps, he and the rest of the station will go nuts.

The womens Relay? I walked in late and thought it was a semi until about the last change.

Armstrong goes all right but Bruce is very ordinary these days.

exactly. Compare it to the commentary on say, the 4x100m relay in Sydney.. not even in the same galaxy.
Yep what a call!

Also Perkins in Atlanta: "This is rare gold, the best kind of gold!"

Wait until the athletics starts, he should fire up then.

HOWEVER, I wonder if all the drugs in sports stuff is starting to dampen his enthusiasm for Olympic sports. We know he still has an orgasm calling sports, think Alan Didak this year, but maybe he has become sceptical.

As an athletics fan I know my build up to these games is somewhat subdue compared to prior games. I will probably fire up once it starts but as excited as some of the swimming has been, like Garry Hall Jnr, I wonder if drugs has played a part in the records. I was amazed at Lezak's swim, then astounded by his relay split of 46.06 when I looked it up moments after the results were available on the net, and then my next thought was are drugs involved?

And his "the heart of a lion, in the heart of dixie tonight" re Susie O'Neill's win in the 200m Butterfly.

calling a swimming race or a running race?

Bruce is supposedly an athletics specialist. His knowledge of athletics is incredible, he's actually a huge fan and follows it very closely. It comes through in his calls, he knows the backgrounds, the stories behind the athletes, knows the events etc etc. He's great at athletics. It's clear Ch 7 put Bruce on the swimming cos they couldnt get Dennis, it shows too, Bruce appears lost commentating the swimming.

for a commentator, why would it make a difference?

Depends on your passion, history in, involvement and knowledge of one sport vs another. They aren't necessarily the same.

footylover explained it nicely above.
