Ch 7 had the the 200m on twice today, that I saw, ie the full 5 minute pre race build up and the 5 minutes after. Bruce and Raelene were fantastic and have been a great double act during the sprints. It made me think a little about future games.
Question is what does Ch 9 do in 2012. Do they go after Bruce say in 2011 knowing that the new footy contract starts in 2012 and they might win that?? Bruce has now done 7 Olympics since 1984 (plus 3 winters) and those of us who were in SA in 1980 saw him as the face of Ch 7's SA Olympic coverage as he was brilliant in the Adelaide studio whilst the 7 team were stumbling and bumbling in Moscow. That's when he went from being a dog's, trots and minor harness races caller on 5DN with a bit of sports reporting and sports reporter on ch 7, to 7 Adelaide's main sports guy, before he left to go to 10 in Melbourne in 1983 as he was given the athletics job by 10 for the LA games.
To me the athletics is the Olympics and Bruce is the athletics. I was in Canada for Seoul and whilst the CBC guy was pretty good it wasn't the same. So does Ch 9 go after Bruce? Will he accept? If not, who replaces him? It's a bit like not having Norman May at the swimming.
Clinton Grybus is the only bloke I reckon who could have matched him. They worked wonderfully well together on 3AW for the commonwealth games in 2006. Thankfully 2UE up here took the coverage. I don't know who 9 had as the caller, but where possible I turned down the TV and had Bruce and Clinton's call on the radio. Everyone is replaceable but who do ch 9 go for to try to match him if he doesn't move over to them for 2012??

Hopefully they chase Bruce though I don't know if he would move unless they took the footy too. The footy wasn't enough to tempt him last time but with the Olympics he might be swayed. There is no doubt that he is The Man when it comes to calling athletics, his knowledge is second to none.

The athletics team is the stand out group at the Olympics for 7.
Raelene has been there since 1996 if not earlier. Steve Ovett is very good generally, as well as for the middle distances. Steve Moneghetti has beautifully taken over from Robert de Castella. Dave Culbert is very good on the field events having gone to the Olympics and world Champs in the long jump and being an Athletics Australia selector, he knows his stuff. He has a bubbly personality. He can call races but because he doesn't have that horse race calling background like Bruce and Bill Collins before him, I'm not sure how well he could do the sprints. Maybe he is the man. He's the only one I can think of at the moment. Terry MacCallife (spel) is ok, but he lacks something, can't tell you what it is, but something is missing.
