thing is tho there window is open now. they need to get a few guys in to come straight into the team, not sit in the SANFL for a couple years.
Loosing smith lever and maybe cameron leaves a whole drafting wont fix next year.

Betts' manager spoke to Adelaide.
This is perfectly legal and accepted. When someone approaches you, that is them talking to you, not the other way around.
Just because you wouldnt pay him $500k but you wanted to pay Daisy Thomas $800k. Well that looks pretty silly now doesnt it.

The difference with the Lever one is that he assured the club and leadership group HE PERSONALLY had not spoken to any Melbourne people about contracts/moving. Which was later found to be incorrect (and also against the rules). From the sounds Betts was very open that his manager was speaking to other clubs because the offer from Carlton was quite low.

If results were similar to this year it would be a first round pick and a 5 pick downgrade in a stronger draft.

Something like

Carlton get: Pick 10 and Pick 16
Crows get: Gibbs and 2018 approx pick 21

Pick 10 essentially for Gibbs is a good deal

A 5 pick downgrade in a better draft is virtually neutral.
