I'm as shocked as the next guy with Big Boy... & if I was a Saints fan, I'd be asking why... Don't think that the Hawks planned it secretively for a year though, Bailey gone & Ben' stats are better. What does confuse me is the Sainrs said "some upsetting trades" "build for the future" & now looking at Jolly as opposed to McEvoy?? Please don't hate the Hawks, we don't have COLA, we didn't plot this this get 8 more members, but I do agree it does hurt St Kilda (who I like alot as a club). Are Sydney off the hook? Are we now the 9 year dealers?
It looks like the Saints are going for the short term pain for the long term gain. McEvoy is part of the short term pain but if this strategy gets the club one or more first round picks then so be it. The club needs to rebuild.
I promise if Shane Savage turns out to be a star for the Saints I won't hate the Hawks.

Yeah I'm biased but Savage is a very good player, needs the freedom to get more minutes.. Now I hope he does real well!

You forgot: No-one likes the Hawks and are happy that they got screwed over.
And no, the Saints weren't screwed over with the McEvoy trade.
b-b-but we almost have as any members as St Kilda and Sydney combined.
You're right, though. Those who aren't Hawthorn supporters don't like the Hawks; we just won a premiership. As the Tall Poppy Syndrome suggests, it's entirely normal for those in lowly positions to despise those at the summit.

Oh the irony. With a dab of hypocrisy.

Lance Franklin's signing will I likely push the Swans beyond 42,000 (32,000 in Victoria). But the real impact for the Swans will be in corporate sponsorship where they already dominate the competition.

Hawthorn and Sydney are different football clubs. The Hawks have a lot more members and rusted on fans but he Swans have the biggest casual support base in the country. As it is Franklin's value won't be in merchandise sales, membership or attendance (though all these will improve from a smallish base) but through TV ratings which will likely go through the roof. The Swans have enormous corporate support, that'll only improve (by the millions) because of his deal.

Last year 3 of the biggest 5 players by merchandise sales were Hawthorn players. Now we've lost Franklin, expect Rioli to sell a hell of a lot of merchandise. Either way, moving off a flag, there is no better time to lose Buddy.

So who's hated the most in the afl now? Sydney or Collingwood?
If Collingwood was a contender it would be them.

But out of those two clubs only one won a premiership in 2012, only one was a contender in 2013 and only one will be a contender in 2014. And only one has been the desired destination for the two biggest off contract stars of the last two years.

That's the one that is most hated.

I personally don't mind because I know we wouldn't be hated if we were bottom 4. More than anything it's a compliment.

Really bad news for AFL in Sydney. Buddy would have done so much good for GWS. Now the status quo remains.
There is already an AFL club in Sydney, and has been for decades. We'll be fine

Swans will be just hoping for hyperinflation.

I imagine they'll be lobbying the RBA and Treasurer pretty ******* hard.

We could try the West Coast method which is tried & true.
Play like a rabble with gun players on your list so you can drop down the ladder which the AFL rewards with high draft picks.
It's a brilliant method. The rhythm method. It's where players "pull out" when it looks like the finals are gone because they are "soft"!

That's the point. Buddy isn't going to move the needle for the Swans. Whereas Buddy would done wonders for GWS and increased our profile exponentially.
Sydney reminds me of a first child
Start getting selfish and throwing tantrums as soon as the New kid joins the family

We were soft for the entire 2013 ****-fest.

Am I the only one that thinks Buddy looks really odd in the Swans guernsey?
