Re: **** the afl

Why didn't Buddy tackle? if he had of, wouldnt have been an issue, he made the wrong decision, bumped poorly, and has been rightfully punished. He should have tackled, he didnt, and he laid a poor bump (you should always get low to bump)

Re: Afl disgrace-time to go demetriou

In other news Andrew Demetriou released the AFL's latest plans on next years uniforms:

Re: **** the afl

Totally agree. Thought I wouldn't have put it so politely.

A complete f***ing disgrace. If that "offence" is worth 2 f***ing weeks, then this game has officially gone to shit.

Just shutup

Re: **** the afl

Why didnt he tackle Cousins? Poor tackle... are you serious... the bump was fair and two goals resulted in the bump.

get the **** outta here

Re: **** the afl

Whoever made the decision to go to tribunal is a goose. Hawks would've beaten Bombers this weekend without Franklin. The rest would've done him good - & he would've been primed for for Week 1 of the finals.

Stop your whinging Hawk supporters - you ran the gauntlet with odds stacked aginst you - AND YOU LOST!!!!

Re: **** the afl

Agreed, what a joke decision. If you watch a game from 5 years ago this sort of thing happens in every other contest. Ridiculous rules which are designed to make soccer moms happy. People watch AFL because of the violence, what doesn't the AFL get.

Split second decision, and a change of direction from Cousins... perhaps Franklin should've got out his protractor and calculated the degree Cousins was coming at him, and maybe got an expert into check the velocity Cousins was traveling, thereby making the correct, informed decision, all in the 0.5 seconds of real-time he had to tuck up and make contact.

Poor decision by the AFL, and I would say that regardless of which team Buddy played for. Taking the physicality out of the game is a huge mistake. Makes me not want to watch.

100% correct. As a coach, i tell my players to tackle the ball carrier and attempt to bring them to the ground. Th bump is only to be used when shepherding or in a 1 on 1 ball-get contest. Franklin went the soft option i.e. it is easier to bump than tackle and got what he deserved. I think that deep down, Clarkson would be very disappointed in Franklins choice of tactics in that contest, I know as a coach myself that I would.

Fair bump, play on.

This kid's jaw was broken, Cuz was just roughed up.

You decide...

You do realise the rule was changed because of that incident - so they can't be directly compared.

But you won't have much argument that what Maxwell did was worse than Buddy, and is the type of incident that we should be trying to outlaw, rather than over-protecting the player with the ball.

Why is everyone so surprised? The rule is clear cut now. If you bump and hit someone in the head and cause injury you get rubbed out. Doesnt matter if it was accidental.

As soon as Hawthorn said they were going to the tribunal on the basis of "you can't get suspended for something like that" they were always going to struggle.

It may be a crap rule but its there in black and white.

Re: Afl disgrace-time to go demetriou

Dear Andrew,

I don't care if what sort of crowd numbers you can quote.

I don't care how many club memberships you can cite.

I don't care if you quote astronomical figures for the media rights.

All of these would have occurred anyway with the bump in the AFL.

You've catered to a fringe, the "Concerned Mother" crowd, in an effort to claim the high ground over Rugby, all the while making our game more and more like soccer.

What you refuse to acknowledge is you're alienating the core of the market. You do so knowing so many people will find it hard to walk away, despite ripping out a skill of the game that has made it so great.

F*** you Demetriou, you've killed the game.

I think I'm going to have to find a suburban team to follow, at least until the muppets that currently run the game are kicked out and the game is allowed to be the physical contest it once was.
