Re: **** the afl

100% correct. As a coach, i tell my players to tackle the ball carrier and attempt to bring them to the ground. Th bump is only to be used when shepherding or in a 1 on 1 ball-get contest. Franklin went the soft option i.e. it is easier to bump than tackle and got what he deserved. I think that deep down, Clarkson would be very disappointed in Franklins choice of tactics in that contest, I know as a coach myself that I would.

Condolences to your team. I feel their pain. Having a coach who has no feel for the game.

Re: **** the afl

It's unfortunate hits like this are gone but sniping at the bottom of packs is allowed (I'm looking at you Rance you dog).

It's more unfortunate that players such as Osborne can jump into the backs of opponents, break one of their ribs, not even get cited & their fans whinge about another player being suspended for an act that has clearly been warned about.

Re: Buddy gets two!

I could have swore that if you choose to bump, you are responsible if there is head high contact. Pretty common knowledge.

I hope the Hawks enjoyed the two goals that resulted from Buddy's poor execution of a fundamental skill, probably the last goals he'll contribute to in 09.

Re: **** the afl

Funny thing is, that with the bump toned down, tackling is more ferocious, physical and exciting than ever. In my opinion, it takes more "toughness" to nail a great tackle, than for a bump.

Some players are superb, tough, aggressive tacklers... others are yet to adapt

oh and... !&&% EVERYTHING THAT EVER WAS FOR A GUY GETTING RUBBED OUT BECAUSE THIS IS THE END OF THE WORLD

i still cant see how that defence could even be thought of

Cousins was in possession of the ball, why couldnt he be tackled:confused:
They meant within the context of the situation, but you're right, it was a weak and desperate defence, reflective of the verdict.

Amazing to see how many Essendon & Collingwood supporters agree with the decision...yet almost every other teams supporters are outraged!!!

Yet another disgraceful decision.

Re: Buddy gets two!

Under the rules he was gone. Under the precedent set this year he was gone.

How are people not getting this? Unless they whinge about the rule itself, which may be fair game, but people forget also that Cousins got a concussion (and is still in doubt for next weekend). I don't like the rule personally, but it's a fair rule.

Re: Buddy gets two!

What a disgraceful decision. Hawthorn need to appeal this. I don't even feel like watching footy any more I am so mad...

I am shattered.

The star of the game has been robbed, and so has all the supporters who were excited to see him on Saturday.

What a sad sad day for the afl. I have NO respect for them at all!!!!

This will change all AFL players approach to games now. No-one will even attempt a bump anymore. They might as well not even do any bumping in training anymore, whats the point?

They could of thought of a much better and more realistic defence then cousins wasnt in complete possession of the ball so he cant be tackled

if you read my long post in this thread you will find i dont actually agree with the suspension

I can see why its a suspension given the rule, and the rubbish defence hawthorn threw up but i dont actually like the ruling

Re: Buddy gets two!

I have charted how biased and stupid Hawthorn supporters are by noting down who was against the decision and which club they supported from this thread so far. Everyone else agreed with the decision. Just try to look at it from an unbiased view (probably hard). I remember when Cloke got suspended for the GF @ C'Wood. All the C'Wood supporters campaigning for him to be let off.

Number of people against the decision by club

Club Number Hawthorn 21 carlton 3 collingwood 2 St Kilda 2 unlisted 2 brisbane 1 Fremantle 1 Mebourne 1 sydney 1

I agree with you to an extent. This ruling however has just shown up what a stupid rule is in place.

And now, that wasn't the basis of Hawthorn's defence . . .Hawthorn went to the tribunal with the defence that the tackle was not a reasonable option.

Stop trolling.

Stop trolling? They were the words of your football manager last night after the MRP verdict....

Re: **** the afl

I too bemoan the lack of bumping in the modern game yet the only way this will change is if crowds and tv numbers drop significantly - alas this won't happen and so the afl will consider it's direction vindicated as they can claim high participation, high attendance and high profits, in general terms the modern game is great, the loss of the bump however is a sad day as it was a skill in it's own right and made the game unique and tough of which we were rightly proud, funny how finals, and grand finals in particular, are always tough hard contests but...

Re: Buddy gets two!

Geez theres some haters out there.....
Franklin gets smashed so hard in the face his tooth goes flying..gets sniped while on the bottom of the pack by some Richmond backline hackers......and then cops 2 weeks for that........
You think that was fair wack might be time to follow Man U.
Disgrace....

Re: Buddy gets two!

Couldn’t happen to a bigger **** the thug deserves all he got. Hope he will learn from this. Mad Wednesday comes early for Buddy:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Listen arse hat...this isn't the first thread I've seen you call him a thug....now obviously you dislike him and as a Richmond supporter I understand, however, a thug he isn't and if you think calling him one makes you sound like anything but a moron then you are sadly mistaken.

Re: Buddy gets two!

If anyone wants to see big hits, just watch some NRL. Finals are coming up and I can tell you now, they don't hold back. There was some massive hits in the St George v Canberra game a few weeks back. Storm will be happy for more disillusioned Aussie Rules supporters to come down to games.

They could of thought of a much better and more realistic defence then cousins wasnt in complete possession of the ball so he cant be tackled
That's the thing: There isn't any other credible back up. It directly conflicts with the new rule.

Re: Afl disgrace-time to go demetriou

This is BS! There was Zero intent to harm, Buddy was playing the game the way it should be, If I were 6'6 I wouldn't have been able to stop myself in his position, what do they expect him to do?
Good luck Hawkers, I hope for a really tight and non-sloppy contest, I think Franklin out will really put the burning desperation back in your players hearts.
Was looking forward to Pears v Franklin too :(

Re: Buddy gets two!

What a load of cr#p

the reason he didn't tackle was due to the fact that had he tackled the umps would have most likely pinged him for too high or some other ridiculous decision that he has copped this year

players are instructed to bump players who have "disposed" of the ball to impede their run...last time i checked this was legal but who knows for how long...they'll probably bring in an "obstruction rule" like in soccer

f#ck you afl...you're killing the game

player haters

I'd rather a player tackle an opponent and get pinged for a free kick, than bump him and get rubbed out for two weeks, but maybe that's just me.

This.

All I am hearing here is reactive emotions. If people were pissed off with the rules put in place then the reactive emotions shown on this thread might have served better in a proactive way at the start of the season when the rule was first introduced in its current wording. If he made contact to the head then under the rules the tribunal has no choice but to apply them as they stand.

FWIW I find it nostalgically sad that the hard hits are dying out in this way yet I also appreciate the need to protect the head as the game goes forward, particularly at the speed it is played at today... Blake Caracella....

Re: Buddy gets two!

what an absolute joke, that is a terrible decision, it really is. I have no love for hawthorn or buddy, but that was a well executed bump, arm tucked in, not jumping, no malice what so ever, just unlucky that cousins head came forward in the bump and made contact with his shoulder, and it is unreasonable to think that buddy could have reasonably forseen that outcome.
