Nothing.

Wrong. It is an important part of the ATP energy system

It's a waste of money.

Correct. The body makes creatine anyway.

Supplements are probably only OK for elite athletes and body builders. The rest of the paying suckers are pissing their money away.

Now back the question: what does creatine actually do? I want one of the people who take this stuff to answer the Q, or are they sucked in by marketing.

Yeah I think you misinterpreted. I meant the supplement does nothing, not the naturally produced creatine within the body. There's a lot of research that questions the effectiveness of creatine as a supplement so i'll agree with you there.

The only supplements that I've had success with are protein shakes and Nitric Oxide. I think it was called N.O. expand or something like that, and basically it put me into an extremely motivated state and made me feel stronger and more conditioned, but also a bit light-headed. It was probably more of just a placebo effect.

Anyone else tried N.O., and if so - what were the results like for you?

Tried a similar product called Intraxcell.. Hated it.. Made me feel light headed and gave me the sweats... I put up with it the first time but ended up just throwing the rest of the bottle out.. It did make me feel stronger, but largely a placebo effect I think.. The bottle of caps retailed at about $80 from memory.. luckily I got it for nothing.. I dont rate pre-workout supplements at all..

Hey fellas. Just wondering if any of you have tips on bulking up

I'm 17 atm and am fairly active cardio-wise (run every second day, usually 5-6km but building it up to around 8km of late) however am looking to bulk up my upper body - mainly biceps, triceps and shoulders I guess. Obviously don't want to stunt my growth (I'm not that tall). All I own is dumbells but I plan on becoming a member of a gym in the summer.

Any tips on the most efficient ways to bulk up?

Hey pendlepie. Getting back to your question, here are the exercises that I personally find to build the most lean mass in the areas you want to develop.

Biceps - Standing barbell curls
Triceps - Skull crushers
Shoulders - Seated dumbbell press, side lateral raises
Chest - Dumbbell bench press, cable flyes
Back - Lat pulldowns, chinups, t-bar rows

As for being worried about stunting your growth - I wouldn't worry about it too much at 17. There's debate about whether or not doing heavy weights during adolescence stunts bone growth or if it just bad for the joints, tendons and bones in general. My personal view is that it's unlikely to stunt growth but I wouldn't recommend lifting heavy before 16, so you should be right. I know a handful of guys who started lifting around 15 and still ended up over 6'3" so my guess is that height is far more closely determined by genetics and nutrition.

nah apparently it's the supplements in the magazines that get the pros to where they are. forget steroids; N.O, creatine, glutamine etc. is what brought them their success, because that's what the ads say. they wouldn't lie :thumbsu:

I agree. Heavy weights, lots of rest, lots of protein and lots of starchy carbs. Throw in some Creatine. Make sure you do squats.
throw in some creatine? like its a sprinkling of oregano! :p
creatine will not help to bulk up. it increases the amount of water ur body retains so ur muscles look fooller, n u get more of the pump, but nothing else more than that to add bulk.

I'm pretty fooll right now, i just had some pasta.

Creatine is ok. I get results from it when i use it, which is maybe one course every 12-18 months.

ssh. some dude already answered this, hes answer was better. urs is uneducated and unaware. u do realise u need protein b4 a workout 2?

I have been lifting weights for over 20 years and during that time I have taken my body weight from 78 kgs to over 120 kgs. I am presently sitting at 112 kgs so I feel I am more than adequately qualified to comment on weight gain and loss. The gentleman in question asked about protein consumption in relation to his workout-

Protein before or after working out?

So I instructed him that in relation to his workout he is best served by taking his protein supplement immediately after his workout and that a water based supplement aids rapid absorption.

Unless you can provide detailed information to discount my claims I suggest you shut up and take your immature dick sizing comments elsewhere. There are people here that are actually looking for help.

.

That is complete rubbish

The name of this thread is "bulking up" you idiot and Creatine will definately make a person add bulk. Shut up and stop embarrassing yourself.

Don't get too hung up on the protein, protein, protein mantra if it is your goal to bulk up folks. Protein has its place in the muscle building puzzle but you must be getting an adequate influx of starchy carbs in order to stimulate insulin production and optimise weight gain. Make sure you get plenty of potatoes, pasta, rice and bread in with your protein meals and try to consume 5 meals a day.

A predominately protein only regimen is commonly referred to as the "Atkins Diet" and is a very good way to lose weight. You need those carbs.
