2008 Hawks all over again I reckon. GWS set to be like Geelong winning flags before you guys do again (obviously ignore 2007), but the stars have not aligned for you this year, just like Hawthorn 2009, while the young talent is clearly still there. Just need to refind the coaching edge and the leadership ala Hawthorn 2011 onwards.

Comparing wins and losses to other years isn't very useful, as far as I'm concerned. It basically comes down to how much utter garbage there is at the other end of the ladder and last year there was a fair bit of that. 2011 was similar. West Coast won 17 games that year and finished fourth, but the Eagles were still absolutely making up the numbers that year because there was an inordinate number of crap teams in the league. Geelong beat Melbourne by 186 points that year and there were four teams that were even worse than the Dees.

On the other hand, this season would appear to be one of remarkable parity, where a blowout has become a rare occurrence, which means 14 wins and a decent percentage should be good enough for top four.

Blowout like Essendon flogging Port? North flogging Adelaide? Adelaide flogging GWS? Port flogging Freo and Gold Coast? Saints flogging Hawks? Swans flogging saints? Gold Coast flogging Hawks? Adelaide flogging Richmond?

You deserved the flag I don't doubt that because you beat the Swans when we couldn't. I just think you got lucky with the bye before the finals because the names you had come back in are guns and they more than likely wouldn't have played without the week off.

It's just annoying as a supporter when an opposition team can't beat you all season then they win the premiership but that didn't stop me from genuinely wanting you guys to win it because like I said Geelong are Sydney's bitch.

We had 4-5 players come back from injury for the 1st finals. Most of those players hadn't played for 4 weeks+.

How many teams win a game when they bring back so many players from long term injury?

Nah cant say that because in reality they were not even that good last year. Finished 6 and got lucky with the bye befote the finals and had a purple patch of form for 4 weeks .

There are more. The randomness of those I've selected says a lot.

Last year was "unprecedented" in how consistent it was in the top 7 teams ripping in to the others (and top 8 before north shat themselves).

There's no 'You're a Premiership Coach' handbook, and there's no blueprint to winning flags.

For Bevo to do what he did last year was massive, that won't happen again in my lifetime.

Too me, he's carrying a huge load atm......and he is really struggling.

All those teams that have lost a prelim by a few points and disappeared should remember that, another go is not just around the corner.
