Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

Give me a break you clown.

What our side lacked was consistency because they are a young group.

We lost to North, Tigers, Freo and West Coast. Yet beat some of the best teams.

Very hard to see us goind backwards next year, but by all means continue with your Essendon bashing, but please don't say your not having a crack when clearly you are.

I was asked why I didn't think Essendon would challenge & I explained my thoughts & get slammed. If you think the likes of Dyson, Winderlich, Watson, Prismall & Stanton will match up against
Boyd, Cooney, Cross, Griffen, Ward.
Swan, Beams, Didak, Pendelbury, Thomas.
Montagna, Dal Santo, Hayes, Goddard.
Judd, Murphy, Gibbs
Or Ablett, Selwood, Bartel, Ling, Corey then you are all on some wonderful drug. You have no forward line & a very much blue collar midfield. Your backline looks good & ruck stocks also but you have no-one really on your list who will be emerging as a star next year. Hurley will be eventually but if you think you will go better than Hawthorn, Carlton & Brisbane next year then you will be disappointed. My point being that players like Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Dangerfield you have no-one in your team like that who is ready to take the league by the scruff.
Sit down, do a list evaluation & you'll see my point. You will contend but not in the next 2-3 years. The teams above you are far, far superior.
Call me a f*&kwit & tell me I have no idea but from outside looking in that's what we all see.
From the inside looking out you all have delusions of granduer.
You are pinning all your hopes on Hurley (fair enough, he'll be a star)
Gumbleton (has proved zero. oh but he's a top 2 pick. yeah so was Luke Ball)
Myers (also unproven)
I have no doubt you'll challenge but I think you're all a little bit ahead of yourselves & now is not the time to splash mega bucks on Burgoyne.
PS you'll need to part with pick 10 for Burgoyne, which really goes against the youth policy you're trying to implement.

Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

Hilarious.

The likes of Lonergan, Welsh and Stanton not only matched it with Judd, Murphy and Gibbs, but smashed them.

I never knew someone from MFC that took so much interest and claimed to have a better knowledge of EFC than those that actually follow the club.

I would have thought that we were pursuing Burgoyne to be able to match it with the likes of the above midfields .

Didn't we also beat 3 of those midfields, 1 of them twice and by 11 goals.

Our shit midfield is so shit.:(

Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

To be fair to him, Melbourne hasn't been worth watching since about NAB Cup round 2, so he's had plenty of time to watch Essendon.

Although, do they have Foxtel at the Bulla Ski Lodge? We didn't have many FTA games this year.

Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

And what people suggesting we trade Lovett or pick 10 doesn't make you laugh. I was just putting up some suggestions I thought would be appropriate, what would you suggest we do to get him then?
Pick 10 is more realistic to gain us Burgoyne's services.

If you think Port would accept a 2nd round pick and Nash/Jetta/Skipworth/Lovett-Murray you're sorely mistaken.

I'd suggest a 1st round pick, or Lovett + 2nd round. Even then they're unlikely to want another outside player like Lovett. A 1st round pick may be what it takes to secure him.

Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

would love him but it says hes asking 750k per year. ridiculous. go away. only judd franklin and reiwoldt deserve that much

According to some poster on the Hawks board who claims to have very reliable sources which have been proven right before, Burgoyne to the hawks was done ages ago and now this figure is being thrown up to put us and melbourne off him and then the hawks will sign him for less.

Don't know how true it is but he sounds highly confident.

Also, don't know whether it is just coincidence or whether there is something behind it, but everyone only seems to be mentioning Hathorn deals and the media are already saying that Hawks are his preferred club, hope it's not true though.:mad:

Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

Trade them all for draft picks. Clearly we need to continue with our youth policy. Stanton is too old, as are Prismall, Watson, Lonergan and co.

Agree, we should make a new policy to never have players older than 19 years of age, as kids are rad.

Next year, according to you, pick 10 will have a name and will just become another unproven youngster...what is the difference?

Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

Tell me who's spot he'd take in the top 4 sides?

Do you honestly think a player who has isn't yet in his prime (forget the fact he is 24, go on games played), who is just starting to hit his straps; who has excellent footskills, genuine pace and can play as a dangerous mid-sized forward due to his marking power would not get a game at either of Collingwood, St. Kilda, Geelong or the Dogs?

Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffftttt - they would all fall over themselves to nab him.

Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

that young Melbourne supporter is really struggling, isn't he?

Yeah, but his main point about us not yet being in premiership contention is apt. We lost our only final by 96 points. We only won 10 games for the season. Yet people have already got us down for a top 4 finish next season?

Getting Burgoyne would most likely result in us losing pick 10. We are losing Lucas, maybe Lloyd and you would hope we would de list Nash. Gives us picks 26, 42 and 58. Picks aren't everything, but we haven't even begun to clear the lower end of our list, and we'd be replacing them with picks 70odd onwards?

So the general consensus is we want Burgoyne, and Skippy, Atko, Laycock, Jetta and Williams are spuds who need to be de listed? So we take draft picks 26, 42, 58, 74, 75, 76ish? Why not, draft picks are over rated and Hirdy went at 79, so we'll win the flag in 2011 and probably every year until 2020?

Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

Pfffft I love people underestimating our midfield.

-Hocking retired years ago
-Reimers will be shit
-Zaharakis is a one kick player
-Stanton is too old
-Watson can't kick
-Winderlich (or is it Wunderlick?) can't be good because I've never heard of him
-Myers will be traded
-Prismall was past it at Geelong
-Lonergan doesn't hurt sides
-McVeigh, Welsh and Lovett should retire

****!!!! I wish we had tanked and taken Murphy, Judd and Gibbs!

Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

I really think we should be putting pick 10 on the table to get Burgoyne at Windy Hill.

Sure, he won't give us 10 years of service, but next year he would take the #1 tagger and if that frees up Watson, Stanton and Prismall then we will have a damading midfield.

We've really gotta chase hard here, because proven performers like Burgoyne usually aren't gettable at 26 years of age.

Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

No I get it. You are all very, very delusional. Keep thinking you'll challenge & be disappointed. If you play finals next year. I will never post again.
The gap between 7th & 8th this year was huge. You have overachieved this year & I think you will realise that by round 10 next year

I'm going to bring this up next year. You reckon that we are such certanties to not play finals next year that if we do, you won't post again, that has got to be delusional.

Hawthorn proved this year that injuries, along with other things, can ruin a clubs year, whats to say that one of the top teams you mentioned wont have a horrid injury run.

We will also at least improve our consistency next year. I think you forget that we beat St Kilda, Collingwood, Hawthorn twice, Carlton twice and drew with Brisbane. Only St Kilda can better that. Us and North are the only teams to have beaten St Kilda. Also add in that we beat you by 40 points.

Have fun taking back that comment this time next year.

Could you do me a favour, and post that in the Bay 13 bet thread?

Cheers.

Re: Burgoyne requests trade to Victoria

I dont think they should be chasing him. For one thing the club is not in premiership window yet and needs to get more games across the team into younger players first. Burgoyne who is getting older would be better suited to a club either in a permiership window or with its premiership window about to open.

Secondly, his asking price is way to high. Even if it isnt $750,000 a year if its anything in that ball park its too much money. As other players on the list improve they will be expecting pay rises and it could cause disharmony in the group to be bringing in a high priced recruit from elsewhere.

He has also been injured in recent seasons so his form might be on the way down at a time when the club should be looking to improve the output of players who will hopefully be with the club for a number of years.

I would rather keep picks such as pick 10 who with a bit of luck will be established players in the team when the club hits its premiership window

It's in the 500k bracket reportably. He's worth it.
