..... I really hope John can get some confidence in himself as I firmly believe he has the talent needed.
No doubt he has the talent, he should just sit and watch this repeatedly. 5 long-distance goals, left or right foot didn't seem to matter. One gimme. Warning, do not look at the overall scores.

Should seriously look at a bloke by the name of Daniel DeGois at Queenscliff in the Bellarine League. The bloke is big, strong, has a bit of mongrel and kicks plenty, currently leading that comp with 71 from 15 games. Given that league has already produced our captain as well as Jasper Pittard, the Clowns captain, two AFL coaches ( Neeld & McCartney ) and no less a player than Gary Ablett Jnr, might be worth a look.

Its beyond trying to getting him mentally right now...

If, and its a humongous if, if he gets it right, you'd have to wonder that a bloke that fragile mentally doesn't relapse and lose his shit again after one incident. Can you carry a bloke like that ??

Probably not, but I do remember a certain Jay Schulz being a mental basket case in his earlier days. I think we just have to persist and give Butcher every chance to succeed until we're no longer able to (i.e. the next crop of tall forwards have come through and overtaken him).

Ben and Ken have known each other for many years, and Ben has spoken to the club since arriving.

I don't know if bombarding anyone on Twitter is going to help. But I know Ben could help, I really hope John can get some confidence in himself as I firmly believe he has the talent needed.

Yeah bombarding probably isn't fair but it is frustrating as to how low Butch's kicking and mindset has sunk.

It's not good enough to say we are working on it. What ever has been tried has failed and something new has to be tried - and something has to be done about it. My fear is that the club and John have given up. That is based on how bad things have got.

I know Perkins is eccentric and not everyone's cup of tea but sometimes is takes an eccentric or someone who thinks differently to crack a hard nut where other people have failed.

Ken's you'll get what you deserve - says to me that if you don't try all options and put them forward then Butch is heading to oblivion as an AFL footballer.

Stewart got about 13 more games than butch and kicked less than butch already has. Personally I would go the opposite now and back him in and tell him now no matter what we are going to play you the first ten games next year in the hope he relaxes. I think he took a double whammy in getting dropped and then ignored for short people when he was up and about so now its time to instil some confidence in him.

Not sure telling him he is safe is going to relax Butch I don't think he is worried about himself... I would perhaps think he would see himself as a liability letting his team mates down if he was gifted games there by compounding the problem... More stress more anxiety. He can stay in the sanfl until he earns a spot.

Stewart has played in defense for most of those games. I think in the last 2 years he has played forward twice.
Round 1 2013 vs Melbourne
and last week vs Melbourne

Pretty sure he is talking about 36 gamer Daniel Stewart v 23 gamer John Butcher not Paul Stewart..

Whoops my mistake haha
In that case he makes a good point.
But Daniel Stewart was not AFL standard for some reason Primus loved playing 4 talls.
If Hinkley did that you would see Paul Stewart and Butcher with an inflated games tally.

can i just throw in, people comparing butch to shaw and harveys weekend vs the crows....
Rutten, a veteran of the afl and could still be playing all be it a little slow, but very good one on one etc played on butch all day.
so Butcher had to put up with a very good afl standard guy standing him where as shaw and harvey did not

Butcher has let the club down by completely Spudding it up. Lets call a spade a spade. If any of us were as useless at our (highly) paid jobs we would have been sacked years ago. If we actually got the 40 goal/competitive/contester key forward we used a top 10 pick for, we'd probably be close to flag favourite at the moment. Am I being harsh? Perhaps. But I've just about lost all patience. Hope he proves me wrong, but I doubt it.

That may not take as long as you think.

Give Shaw this following pre season and by the start of next season, I dare say he'll be well ahead of Butcher.

100% this. At first his performances were disappointing, but recently he's just been pissing me off. The club needs him badly, he has all the talent in the world and is in a position that thousands of people would happily give a nut to be in. There has to come a time to put aside all the excuses made for him and realise the responsibility is his more than anyone else's. Get your shit together John.

Gee i must have wrote this post and used a different ID hahaha,Your smack on the money Papa, have been saying this for years sadly for us hes gone from bad to worse.
Problem is his trade value would be a second rounder at best (Jacobs MK11) and that's if we dump him this year.
So its a hard call for the club, i think they will keep him and hope for a miracle

Not on the club website that I can see but according to Fox's League Teams Butch was one of 3 emergencies named against Collingwood. Neade was another and I can't remember the 3rd. Wasn't Shaw or Harvey.

Amon, Mitchell, Neade will most likely be the emergencies.

Butcher was not listed.

Good news everybody!

A Freak Week piece on Fox Footy tonight named Jayson Daniels (Saints/Sydney) - as having the worst kick for goal of all time in the AFL.
They showed a clip (yet to find it online) of him playing for Sydney and kicking from 25 dead in front, only to have it land way out on the full. His mother is in the crowd laughing at him! Dermot Brereton said he was the only player he knew of to kick from that position and have the ball land further from the goal than where it started.

Butcher, like C. Cornes, needs to be tried at the other end of the ground (where he may show something, fingers crossed). He is not an AFL standard forward, never will be.
